Which 45 caliber cartridge and bolt action or single shot or double rifle to do you shoot.
Only 458 Winchester or larger. I have left the 45/70 and the like out so as to see how the 45s line up against the 416s in terms of wildcats and rifle and action makes and as you know the 416 bore size does not have a 45/70 type cartridge.

458 Winchester magnum. M70 Super grade. I use 500 Hornady for heavy stuff and 405 Remington FP for deer. Awesome deer rifle, by the way, using those 45-70 bullets.
I have a 458 Winchester in a M-70 Classic Stainless action and a 450 Ackley in a CZ 550 Safari action in the work and should be done sometime next week. Cheers! Ming

I have used the 458 and the 458 Lott...I much prefered the Lott, but I still prefer the 416 Rem or 416 Rigby, or 404 which is the equal of the 416's....
One thing I have noticed and that is the 416's seem to out penitrate the 458 and the 458 Lott..Hoffman and I were just talking about this on the phone about an hour ago.
After using both I much prefer the 40 calibers.

Mike, isn't there a .416 Barnes wildcat for levver action rifles made by necking down a .45/70 case? And also a .416 Ackley Improved using the .348 Win. case for M 71 Winchesters?
Eldeguello, There is a .416 Barnes, a rimmed cartridge for lever actions, not to be confused with the .416 Barnes Supreme, and I do believe you are right on all accounts.

That unaltered CZ 550 .458 WinMag needs to be rechambered to 450 Ninja.

Mike, Weatherby Mark V Deluxe rifle.....460 Weatherby Magnum. I like the 500 Hornady soft point as they shoot accurately with either mild or top loads and the rabbits give up on the first shot..

450/110 in an 86 Winchester lever gun. Should be back from the smith in about a week. Starting loads with 420 grain hard cast is 2300 fps. Max load is 2430 fps. Should get 2200 with 460 grains and 2100 with 500 grains. I think those ballistics count on this thread.

Oldsarge, Is the 450 Rigby simply the 416 Rigby necked up with no other changes? This may be the ultimate 45. Could you measure the neck and shoulder diameters of a fired case and tell us the numbers from your rifle's fire forming of cases, please. So you paint nude females in your garage studio, eh? Do you put them on canvas or use finger paint?

Belgium made Browning Safari Grade in 458 Winchester Magnum.4x Leupold sits on top,and it's stoked with 500 grain Hornadys over a near maximum charge of IMR-4064.Three shots will go 1-1.5 inches from the bench, depending on how well I'm doing that day.
Custom made 45/120 3 1/4 inch made on Falling Block Works action.A Redfield 2 3/4x sits on top.Haven't shot it yet,but plan on shooting 580 grain cast bullets around 1600 FPS with AA XMP-5744.
My main DGR is a .458 Lott/Watts built by Duane Wiebe on a radically altered P17 action. I have shot everything from impala to buffalo with it, at ranges from about 15 yards to 247 (measured) yards, using 500-grain Speers at 2200 fps. My North American load is a Barnes 400-grain X at 2400 fps. I am currently trying to work up some loads for the 350-grain Speers for Varmints and practice.
I have a second .458 Lott/Watts (currently in pieces) being built by by me on a radically altered P14 action. I have been working off and on on this gun, and will probably rechamber it either for the .450 Dakota, or .450 Rigby, since I already have one Lott
I have owned but sold because I had the Lott and needed the money, a CZ550 in .458 Winchester.

My .458 contingent consists of a P-14 Enfield currently chambered in .458 X 2" The American by Barnes,,,I plan to have this guy re-chambered. What would be the best choice ? I am leaning to the Lott due factory brass being available now. Is there a better choice that would be as simple? Maybe somebody has a reamer for hire ? TIA 45nut
