What .50 Cal can I turn a Winchester Safari M70 in .458 into?
I have a big fascination with the 50 calibers and was wondering If I can just have a rifle rebored out to a .50 cal rifle. http://www.35caliber.com/2.html
The platform I have to work from is the Model 70 Safari .458 Winchester.
What .50 would work with this action?

I think the easiest would be the 500 AR. Contact Jeffeosso on this forum, he is a moderator, and he can supply all the info you need. If you look at a post by him, you will see all is information at the bottom of his posting, including links to cartridge drawings, where to get reamers, etc. Good luck.

Thanks Mike. I just sent him a PM and invited him to this topic.
Hopefully I can get some prices too.

replacing the barrel would be the best bet ... you can make it heavier, if you like... the lawyeers say you need .1 to .12 PER SIDE on the barrel ... mcgowen precision has the 500 ar reamer, dies, and guages on hand, right now ...

of course you could start with rechambering the winmag to the 458 AccRel -- 112gr h20, slight more than a lott, but 3.35" aol .. can easily break 2300 fps with 500gr hornadys

and the cool middle ground is the 470 AR, but that's neither fish nor fowl here ...

7-800 bucks to turn your model 70 into a 500 AccRel .. and its a FUN caliber to load/shoot/show off .. you can even singleload milsurps, BY DESIGN

If its an old M70, save it. You'll be ahead with a new rifle in .50 something.
