Took my new, to me, Whitworth .458 Win Mag to the range this morning. I left the scope off it since it fit me so well using open sights. Loose cloverleafs while standing at 25 yds and a 2" group at 50 yds while sitting.

Two issues:

Ejection is non-existent. The round extracts and lays in the tray. I tried fast and slow ejection, but no dice. The ejection 'pin/post'(?) doesn't appear too short or damaged. Any suggestions?

At 25 yds the gun shoots 3" high and 2" left. I can drift the front sight, but don't feel comfortable filing down the shallow rear V sight. How difficult would it be to replace my factory front sight with a NECG version with a couple differnt hight inserts?

I changed my front sight inserts with Williams 3/32 white bead. They are available in multiple heights from Brownells. Bob

Don't forget to get one of the sight pushers from Brownells.

Apparently a common Whitworth problem. Seems like the ejector needs to be closer as on two of the ones that I had they would also pop them loose but not eject. They seemed to be getting bounced back from the side of the receiver. They went bye-bye before I got around to fixing them. Hope you get it fixed okay.

Careful with that front sight Matt.

The Whitworth front sight ramp is secured with two screws. Support/punch sight drifting will likely damage it's mooring. A proper sight pushing tool (looks like a chain pin tool) like Will notes is a must.
The factory front sight ramp on my rifle came loose on the first day of load development, and that was before I ever attempted to make a windage (or any other sort) adjustment.

I replaced the front sight ramp on my Whitworth with a NECG banded ramp. I forget what the name of the model of sight I got is, but I'll note it's the one that's adjustable for elevation.
Blades come in different heights, and the hood for this system is tough and secure.
I have yet to do so, but with this system it's easy to get set up for different bullet weights/loads and have front sight blades 'pre regulated' for your loads.

Gotta love an elevation adjustable front sight!
