http://www.birdman.org/ Just titled it this to grab some attention - the site, though, is the funniest I have seen in some time. Good hunting!

The recoil of the .50BMg in a pistol actually isn't as bad as a full tilt 500 S&W. I built one just like this out of a Maadi Griffin Kit and was UNimpressed!! Remember the .50 BMG uses a VERY slow powder and 647-750 gr bullets. In a pistol with a 12 inch barrel all you get is unburnt powder. Now try a 26 inch .600 OK. Believe me you'll KNOW the DIFFERENCE!-Rob

Robgunbuilder, This is nothing but a joke about a fictitious .50 Cal nuclear powered gun. I posted it here as a joke. Far be it for a gun ignoramus like me to question the genius of people like you, Jeffeosso etc, sir - please enjoy the joke on the site. It also has links to spoofs of the Brady campaign website etc which are equally funny as is the video of them shooting this "monster". There is no offense implied at all - as I said, I brought in your invention only to attract a little attention to a lighthearted fun website. Sorry if it sounded offensive in any way - that was never my intention. Good hunting!

I thought it was hysterical! Obviously, it's a joke, there's no need for you to explain or apologize. If someone takes this seriously . . . sheesh!

Mehul, the site is only partially a joke.. the nuke part certainly is, but the fella DOES have a 50 bmg pistol... and he thought (if you watch the nuke video) it kicked like it SHOULD deliver a nuke!! Besides, heh, playwith with quickload says, IF ONE USES A FILLER, one can match 500 jeffe, with rl15, and have a 99+% powder burn... of course that's burning 1/2 again the amount of rl15 i need for my 500 jeffe, but that's a different issue... can you imagine that chambered FOR 500jeff/nitro? even scarier... as a HOWDA in 50BMG?... left and right breaches.... okay, i am scaring myself.... Rob, What about a 500 SW in a howda? now THAT would be both cool and "practical" shhh, don't tell Lars!!! jeffe

Mehul- The Maadi-Griffin pistols on the .50 BMG do indeed exist. Yes I know the .50 NUKE is a joke. About 5 years ago I made a couple of Maddi-Griffin receivers and for ha ha's made a pistol out of one. I shot it a few times and then used the receiver for another gun. I think I still have the frame around here somewhere. We often shoot rifle cartridges in pistols for unlimited metalic sihloette shooting. A few years ago I was very successful at 200 meters shooting a heavy barrelled( 16 inch) .308 winchester round in a rebarrelled .221 Fireball pistol! This gun from a creedmore position could shoot 1 inch groups at 200 meters. Recoil was modest but accuracy was phenomenal-Rob

Jeffeosso, I have never shot any rifle bigger than 470 and I shot that only once. That is the extent of my experience with big guns As far as the Howda guns are concerned, I was put in touch with Mr Lee Jurras by a very respectable member here as well as on the Nitro Express forums when I posted reading about his attempts at redoing the Howda guns a long time ago. I still cannot remember where I read about this - in Guns and Ammo or Gun Digest many years ago. I shall post about it both on the Nitro Express.com as well as these forums as soon as I hear from him. It should be of interest as this came after the British gun trade had lapsed into a deep recession that they are only now coming out of and well before J D Jones came out with his monster guns on the TC Contender frame. I guess they would be of historical interest as an interesting transitional attempt at recreating the old howda guns in the 1970s. Good hunting!

Robgunbuilder, Personally, I would have a strong mental block over shooting an 50 BMG pistol as I have never been good at shooting heavy recoiling guns. I have very little experience, too, at this kind of shooting. Thanks for all your posts - I guess I am among the 90% of members here who come to the Big Bores forum even though we don't own any big bores. There is a sense of history that most of us are simply awed by and that is what brings us here from time to time. Good hunting!

Okay, I heard that. I believe that the 500S&W has too high of chamber pressure for a double gun. Unless you make it a double falling block. That's why I think that the 50-70 would be a better idea. But with that new SA junk(45 cal or smaller). Then you might have to settle for a 45-70 or similar.

Lars, call it a 500 JO... a lower pressure 500 jeffe

What would be great fun, if not for the DD restrictions, is a 12 bore howdah shooting the Aguilla mini slugs. I'm still debating getting a muzzle-loading 12 bore double and cutting it down as a howdah. I figure round balls over a healthy dose of black out to be big fun
