I am looking for a new .416. MRC rifles look like good values with well-designed Model 70 type actions. Does anyone have any experience with MRC rifles in either .416 Rigby, Ruger or Remington? How do their wood and synthetic stocks compare for recoil management & durability? USMC Retired DSC Life Member SCI Life Member NRA Life Member

I've got one in .300 Win if that's any help. I've got to level with you; if mine is any indication of the rest of them it isn't even close to worth it. Action is clunky, sticky and rough and that's after using it enough to wear out the first barrel. Serves me right for buying sight unseen I guess. I'd rather have a Winchester.

Regarding the action. It is the action I use on my 500MDM. I couldn't use a Win 70 action as a donor action as Winchester never made a lefty action for the 300RUM. The action is very smooth (and feeds FN bullets), however this is after SSK industries put the gun together for me, and most likely worked on the action.

Wasnt there a thread here about 5 yrs ago on the trials&tribulations of their PH actions? How did that ever resolve?

Action was completed and all orders delivered... Just takes time to design, workout functional issues, and deliver the product without massive recalls or "fix-it returns". I don't own one - just going from comments by Ed Hubel and others. Jim "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

I am a lefty and have two MRC actions. When I got them they were functional but rough. It took some work to make them smooth. One is working very well now, it is for a 257R. The other is in a 458 Lott, but it isn't finished yet. I like the bolt release better than a Mauser style, fwiw. JPK Free 500grains

Thanks for the feedback. One more question: How do you think MRCs compare with the CZ 550? Which .416 Rigby would you buy? USMC Retired DSC Life Member SCI Life Member NRA Life Member

If you go with a CZ 550 .416 Rigby, Wayne at AHR is supposed to be "the man" in terms of rifle tuning and customization. I am sending my .375 H&H to him for his action / safety / bolt / trigger package.

I have found Wayne to be professional, responsive, timely, and very pleasant to work with. He would be an excellent choice to tune up a CZ if you go that direction. I have not used the MRC action so no opinion there. ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

I sent my CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery to him for his CZ #1 upgrade when it was a little 375 H&H (trigger, safety, bolt package) and was thrilled with the results.
