Had a look at one in a London gun emporium today. Seems a nicely built and well finished rifle. By the time you added decent optics it would be a five figure price tag which would make you splutter. But if had a British name on it it would sell well. Clearly a lot of work gone into the action and finishing. Also handles well. I suppose by the time you have taken a basic CZ 375, finished it well and added a nice price of walnut you would be getting up to a few thousand in whatever currency. It was nicer than the Highland Stalker I also looked at.

I really love my worked over CZ550. Bought a standard model 375H&H used for $600, added a factory kevlar stock for $450, Wayne at AHR did $1800 in work to it, and topped with with a $1600 Swarovski Z6i 1-6 in $100 Warne QD rings. So $4550 or so into it. Much happier, imho, this way than buying a Safari Classic from CZ for $2000+ and still wanting to send it to Wayne for a 3pos safety.

If you go with the upgraded walnut, have a few things added you're easily into $2500. That's about what I have into my 500 Jeffery but I'm thrilled with it. Considering the price of ordinary Sakos these days, Chuck, I'd say your rifle looks good value if it only cost $2500.

I got lucky. I ordered a normal CZ in 375 H&H from Sportsman's warehouse (had a 10% off coupon) but wanted some extras so they ordered it from the CZ Custom Shop. I paid for the barrel band and another $1k for the fancy walnut. About a year later Harlan rechambered/rebarreled it to 500 Jeffery for $500. I'm sure it's a lot more now Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

Those CZ 550 Safaris are rough dogs out of the box until you send them off to Wayne at AHR for his standard remediation treatment. He'll make 'em feed reliably, clean up the action-to-stock fit if needed, tune the trigger, and fix whatever else the factory rats at CZ left hanging loose. Then you're ready to take it across the pond to kill Water Buffs, et al. All The Best ...

Chuck: That’s a really nice looking 500 Jeffery you have there. Congrats! A.J.: I have to agree with you on Wayne’s work @ AHR. I have three rifles with him currently. His work is outstanding! I have a 9.3x62 CZ that the CZ custom shop did for me years ago and it is really nice, but I think Wayne’s work is superb.

I'd like to put in a vote for Wayne too. I paid $500 for his CZ #1 upgrade to my 500 Jeffery (forgot to add that in the bill). It included straighten and fill the bolt handle, install a 3 position M70 type safety and install his single stage match trigger. Wayne does awesome work and does it on time.
