"I'm in"
"it is finished"
"it has only just begun"

I sold the M700ss barrelled action.

I have a new Winchester M70 Stainless Classic with walnut stock in .375h&h. Hopefully, I will have it setup and ready for some practice come the GA firearms deer season in October.

I will post pictures of the 'budget rifle' as soon as they
are available.

Thanks for all the advice.

Regards,

I'd sell the Remington or trade it in on a Ruger No.1, a CZ, or a Winchester...

The following combination of:

1) Rem 700
2) 375 H&H
3) Visiting gun forums

is a recipe for heartburn.

I would go along with everyone else on the CZ/M70 option.

However, another option you might consider is to rebarrel the Rem 700 to 375 Remington Ultra. If you are a reloder the 375 Ultra will give you a lot more potential to play around. Not having all the traditional bullshit associated with the 375 H&H you will be forgiven for having the 375 Ultra in a Rem 700 based rifle. The 375 Ultra also goes together much better with the stainless/wood than the H&H.

There is, of course, the Ruger No.1H stainless/lamniated stocjk version .375 H&H. Of course, it is not as pretty as the 1H .375 I have with a walnut stock and blued steel. The only "gunsmithing" I had to do to mine was to mount a Leupold 2.5X-8X VariX III on it. I may just be lucky, but I have never had to do anything to any of my six No. 1's to get them to shoot well, other than slap a scope on them. Same for a No. 3 in .30/40 Krag also.

Mike.

The only thing worse than a mod 700 is the 375 ULTRA in a Mod 700! The ultra will do nothing that the H&H will not do as well, and at the end of the day you still have a crap push feed, with a bastard cartridge!

All kidding asside,I'd pick up a CZ 550, Mod 70, Whiteworth Express, or any CRF 375 H&H, and be done with it! The Ultra is OK if that is what you want, but I'd put it in a Control feed rifle, rather than any pushfeed, and the old stand-by 375 H&H would be my pick every time!

To all of you CZ users...

how much does yours weigh ready to go? Their website states 9.3lbs for both the safari and American safari. Is that heavy or light for a large mauser? Also, have you kept the 25" barrel as is or shortened it? Is the factory recoil pad useful or best replaced by a Decelerator?

I am ready to move the M700ss and get an H&H.

Thanks,

My .375 would weigh I think 10 pounds scoped loaded so it's not light. I like the 25" barrels so thats the way I have left all my cz's I shoot better with low magnification scopes and long barrels I think.

CZ it shall be.

I went to an Atlanta shop that specializes in CZ today and looked at the Safari and American Safari. One of them had a one-hole, 3 shot test group - quite impressive. I also liked the factory installed Decelerator pad - another good value in addition to mauser action, dropped magazine, integral bases, etc.

Just a matter of days now to move out the M700ss and go back for the CZ. I will post after reciept of new .375.

Thanks again,
