Blaser, Heym, Mauser, Browning Acera, ranked in order of quality.

Preferences are personal. The R 93 has its good and bad sides, and it is very accurate. However, *nobody* (and I mean nobody) who ever handled the superbly made Heym SR 30 parallel to a plastic-and-sheet-metal Blaser R 93 will mistake the manufacturing quality of either.

Carcano, quality is a overall concept judgment and does not restrict itself to a peculiar detail or manufacturing technique. While I hold Heym classic bolt action rifles in high esteem, I can't say the same about the SR30, fit and finish notwithstanding. Just try and take out the bolt in the field, where tools and storage for loose parts are rather uncommon...

The SR 30 is a grat gun and shoots wel I have never seen a client hunt with one in Africa so I cannot comment outside of the range. I like the Blaser and have used mine and clients guns all over Africa, they work and I have found shoot really well. It is the only push feed gun I own

The Sommer and Ockenfuss website lists not only their own straight pull desgns, it also offers conversions for Mausers etc. As an armchair enthusiast, I'm sure the more knowledgeable and experienced members will have something to say about this, but until then, you could check their website out:

Good shooting!

I wouldn't include the S&O with the straight pull rifles. It's in a class by itself but the closest definition I can think of is that of a "bull pup pump action", being closer to a Rem 7600 than a Blaser R93, for instance. My 2c.

Thank you for correcting me on the S&O. Do you own any of these or have any experience of these? There is very little independent information on them available. Thanks.
