I have a request for an order to get the pipeline flowing.

Surely American Gun Holdings/McGowen Rifle barrels could handle exporting of barrels.

Neal Shirley moves a lot of GSC bullets, right?

Well, happy day! Gerard says he can send some .395 Bullets to Neal, if only Gina will allow it. thumb

Some of these:

For some of these:

39 Brown-Whelen
.395 RugerMax
.395 GSC
.398 Lapua Magnum
.395 Tatanka

I am doing:
.395 Tatanka
398 Lapua Magnum
.395 RugerMax

prof242 aka "Max" is doing:
.395 RugerMax

Gerard is doing:
.395 GSC

Charles Helm has dreamed up:
.395 RUMsveld
Though it will be easy to find brass for that one with the proper headstamp (.375 RUM becomes .395 RUM with the scratch of an engraving tool), Charles is conflicted over being the Black Sheep of The Family, with a rebated rim. It should equal or exceed the 398 Lapua in case capacity.

That 300 RUM Ruger would make a great RUMsveld, wouldn't it?

Got to keep my eyes open. I found a Model 70 300 RUM but it is a Super Grade. Eeker

The Ruger M77 MkII 300 RUM, yes it would be perfect for a .395 RUMsveld. Sounds like a MkIII to me, hopefully a well done and opened-to-the-rear Mark II. Wink

But what is a Super Grade M70 in 300 RUM being priced at nowadays?

That one is pretty enough to make an extended-pinky-finger 404 Jeffery .395 RUMsveld out of. Better grab it and build a 404 Jeffery.395 RUMsveld. It has a slender forearm and a slight drop at the heel, not one of the negative-drop last run stocks. I'd say that would be perfect wood for use of scope or iron sights. thumb

I saw a used stainless-synthetic M70 Classic 300 RUM sit in the Wichita, KS Gander Mountain store for many months. It was priced at $1699 in early 2006 but finally sold for $699 just before year end. Big Grin

5 years ago I could find them in local shops in TN and KY for $499 new. They were slow movers back then.

I turned one into a 404 Jeffery and another into a .416 Dakota.

I need another one for a switch barrel.
It could do for .395 RugerMax, .395 GSC, and .395 RUMsveld, maybe all with the same magazine or just switching out the sheetmetal magazine box.

It is a versatile action.

It could even be used for the .398 Lapua if the boltface is opened up, and the box expanded enough to get three down of the Rigby/Lapua case head.

Got me thinking again ... and that can be hazardous ... getting tired of all these mega magnum actions BOOM for the 2.724" Lapua case length ... M70 398 Lapua ... mgun

I like a compact and light rifle myself, to a degree. That is why I would like to use a Model 70.

That one would make a nice .404 indeed. Just not sure I have the pin money for it. I sure do spend a lot of time griping about my budget, don't I? rotflmo

There is another rifle on AA I have bid on before. No wonder I never hit the reserve. I think I went up to $500 or less, and the starting price now is over a thousand. Doesn't everyone want a 450 magnum with a monte carlo stock and Conetrol mounts for that money?

Okay, I still lust after it. Big Grin

It's a real conundrum. The 300 RUM cries out to be a .404, but is also a natural for the RUMSveld. Of course the .395 requires a small additional developmental budget!

Yes, Charles, the .395 Rumsfeld will require additional developmental cash, but think of the company you'll be in!
Uhh, maybe I should rephrase that looking at our forum pics, huh, Rip?

A guerilla prairie dog and a bison skull, picturesque, aye, but not altogether incongruous, aye aye!

I got the .395/400gr paper-patch bullets for fireforming and squirrel hunting. Still looking for that .375 Ruger reamer with removable pilot ... should be any day.

Hi Max,
Dave Manson went on vacation before shipping the .375 Ruger reamer. He must have been making a big run of those and got tuckered out. Wink

We still wait. One bottle of Wild Turkey should be sufficient. Maybe we should just bring some shot glasses full of GSC bullets sent C/O: www.custombrassandbullets

If we live long enough we'll see this "labor of lunacy" to completion. Hey, it is coming along pretty well, only 7 months into this, from the first agreement of Gerard to make bullets and McGowen to make barrels, we have one rifle chambered in .395 Tatanka and more coming in .395 RugerMax, .395 GSC, 398 Lapua Magnum, maybe even .395 RUMsveld, which could supplant the 39 Brown-Whelen in the lineup. Wink

To paraphrase that old Vulcan aloha: Live long and have fun, who cares about prosper?

I will have the shot glasses made up, etched with .395 on them. They will be given to the first dozen people to have a .395 constructed. As soon as the shot glasses are completed, yours will be in the mail.

Um, considering this is the large bore forum, I bought magnum "3 oz" shot glasses today. They are now at the laser etchers and should be done next Friday. Oh, no belts on the glasses, but may need belts on the barstools after two of these.

Belts have a whole different connotation when used in connection with shot glasses...

I can't find the Model 70 RUM -- maybe I should make a .395 WSM? What would that be? A .395 Won't Shoot Much?

Charles,
I've already got a 6.5WSM and a .338WSM, yes, both wildcats. I like them both in their realms, but with the .395, gotta love the .395 Ruger Max. However, each to their own poison. If that's what you want (and it will fit on a short action), go for it. You could use .325WSM brass, changing the two to a nine.
Oh, there is a rumor going round that someone is listing himself as "prof242backup." He's a lousy shot and has nothing larger than a .338WSM almost identical to mine(hmmm) and cut with the same reamer. Big Grin

I was kidding about a WSM, just seems they are the easiest Model 70s to find.

Hmmm. .395 SAUM? .395 WSSM?

I think not!
