I have a CZ 550 in 416 Rigby with Euro stock. It is like handling a 2x6. Do any of you guys know a source for a replacement stock, other than CZ than would be slimmer than the factory one? I can trim the original down but that may be more trouble than it's worth. You can borrow money, but you can't borrow time. Don't wait, go now. Trimmed down stocks actually turn out quite nicely. I have one that is trimmed down. You don't have the hassle of bedding a new stock etc. .

AHR, does a lot of restocking they may have a plain Jane American stock for reasonable. I like those way better than the euro. It might be cheap money. I dont get that hump back idea. A straight stock is supposed to reduce recoil and that hump is exact wrong way to go. Probably works ok on a 7mm for open sites, but even at that just too ugly. If you want a slimer stock, AHR can I believe, slim down one of those American stocks. They can also add an aluminum bed, which you may or may not want. A slim wood stock is (or was) also an option from CZ in St Louis, I forget the model name. They might sell you a stock. The slim /lighter stock that is. They looked like a nice grade wood. I cannot find that on-line, maybe it was dropped. I saw it in paper printed catalog last year. Maybe it was a 550 standard not magnum. I do see Kevlar stocks for 550 magnums. FWIW.

If you're handy with a rasp and sandpaper, I'd give it a go. Or have Roger Ferrell or AHR or another stockmaker do it. I've trimmed several ZKKs including those with Weatherby-style stocks and even they can be made to look & handle very nice. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Brain, We don't trim or refinish the factory stocks, but with a little patience you could do well. The finish is very hard to get off, even with chemical stripper, but it will come off. Very often there is some nice looking grain under the opaque stain that CZ uses. We usually have a few magnum take-off stocks laying around, but we are out now. We have a bunch of take-offs for the 30-06 length action. Good luck
