I keep coming up short trying to find an outfit that can put a 416 ruger barrel on my 77R action. Anyone here have a suggestion?

You should be able to find a smith, a 416 barrel and ---

a reamer:

Heck you might even be able to talk one of the Texas smiths on the forum to do it--

How are you coming up short? Last I checked 0.416 barrels were readily available. Are you/your gunsmiths having difficulty finding reamers? Considering how many have been made (416 Rugers) by the members of AR these reamers must be plentiful as well.

Actually I had an advantage I had a neat little HOWA/VANGAURD in the safe chambered in 416 Taylor and just ran a reamer into it, and it was done.

Best part is, it's a pretty simple job, there was NO action work needed at all, although I did loose one round in the magazine. The Ruger action and BOX should be a little wider so there really shouldn't need to be any more work. If there is it will only be to widen the follower box but I never had to do this in my 458 AccRel on a HAWKEYE action and the 416 Ruger case shoulders are NOT wider than the AccRel case.
I'm pretty sure I can get the magazine capacity back to 3 down in my HOWA VANGAURD if I cut some windows in the follower box at the shoulder as per the RUM

Heres the rifle and it shoots real good too. The second shot I have removed the epoxy finish and now oiling the stock

You know I can't imagine any gunsmith knocking this job back it's pretty simple bread and butter work, it's a simple converstion

I can't find any of the companies I normally have do our rebarrel jobs that do a .416 Ruger. 416s are not a problem but the new Ruger is not as availible as I thought it would be. I may just try to talk the customer into something more gettable.

It's a 7 mag now, probably not enough room to rebore to a 416 or 458.

Any idea what a quality rebore runs in terms of time and money?

http://www.cutrifle.com/reboring.html

Rebore/rerifle/rechamber pricing

(up to 4 calibers larger) Example .22 to .270 or .308 to 9.3

Larger changes add $5.00 per caliber

Rebore/rerifle barrel only $220
Rebore/rerifle/rechamber w/o setback $295
Rebore/rerifle/rechamber with setback (Ack. Imp.conversions)

Time varies--

PacNor, E.R. Shaw or McGowen can do your R-M77 or provide you with a prefit barrel or contoured barrel blank. Rental Reamers are available at ReamerRental and 4D Reamer rentals.

Surely you can find a gunsmith in your area that can do the work if you hand them a barrel and a reamer or prefit barrel to screw on and finish headspacing????

ER Shaw doesn't do 416 cal barrels. As to a 416 Ruger most companies doen't have a reamer, "yet".
