Rian, There is information around, but I don't know of any reloading data for South African powders. jim dodd http://freespace.virgin.net/kynoch.ammunition/list%204.htm

I have a Ruger #1 Tropical SS that has been rechambered to a .450 Rigby. I am not a reloader so I had to find loaded ammo. I just received my Kynoch ammo. It has a 480 gr bullet loaded to 2350 fps. I purchased the rifle second hand from a gentleman that is a .450 Rigby fan. Even though the Ruger has a mecury recoil reducer and thick recoil pad, it is still a hoss to shoot. I don't know if I will ever take it in the field to hunt with, but it sure makes big holes in the ground.

Recoilpad, IMO the #1 is 'way too light for the .450 Rigby. You will be a lot more comfortable if you up the weight to at least 10-10.5 lbs. Ray scoffs at mercury buffers but I like them and put two in my Brno. At 10.25 lbs. empty, it is manageable but took some time to work up to. If you can get the weight up and take about 2-3 months of increasing numbers of shots (five aimed ones in succession is enough), you will find that it hits like the hammer of Thor. There isn't anything that has walked this Earth in the last 65,000,000 years that can stand up to it.

Oldsarge, I agree with you on this. The Ruger is too light for this caliber. I have thought about hanging a bag full of bricks from the barrel when I shoot this rifle. It is a beautiful rifle though, I will probably keep it as a novelty item. My understanding is that this cartridge is loaded to a lower pressure like the .416 Rigby making it an ideal African cartridge.
