Picked the 375 up from the shop today, even though they hadn't gotten to working on the barrel band yet. I was going up to the range though and wanted to take it out.

First shot, offhand, about 1.5" from center at 100yds. Surely a fluke, next shot was a few inches off (I'm not a great shot :-)

But I got another shot about the same distance from center from the rest. I only fired 5 rounds though. my eval:

I really like that front sight, BUT, it is awefully big at 100, I was shooting a big circle that the OD must be like 9" at least. and it almost covers it.

The rear site is a bit different, and mounted awefully low, requiring me to bring my cheekbone down snug on the stock (so I get major shock to the face, my shooting companions thought I was bruised after I got done).

bolt cosmetically is flawed, some minor pits or such in the metal, covered by the jeweling. Didn't affect function though, very smooth cycling.

Rifle weight is the only problem I see. It is on the light side for a big rifle. I didn't have a problem at the shoulder, so don't think the pad is in need of replacing anytime soon.

Overall I was tickled pink, especially with the accuracy. the site was loose when I got it, so I just lined up the hatch marks that are there for windage and tightened it down, made no adjustments at the range. Can't say exactly how accurate it is until I get a good rest setup, but prelimenary looks very good. I give it two grins :-) :-)

Congrats Dago Red,

I would reccomend a 1-4 leupold Vari X 11 there good value and a good scope for a .375 H&H IMHO.

Dago Red,

I recently picked up the same rifle in 416 Remington and had the same problems as you.

The stock is totally wrong for me and the open sights woeful. My rear sight was loose as well.

I am now going the whole way and customising the rifle with a stock to suit me (monte carlo) and proper safari sights, quarter rib etc. I was pleased with the bolt action which I think is second only to the Mauser 98 - real smooth staight out of the box and feeds flawlessly from the mag. It will be a nice rifle when I am finished and I have been happy to spend the money as it will be my only big bore.

What scope mounts are you planning for yours? I will be using Talleys with a Leupold 1-4x20 Var11 that I bought but never used a few yaers ago. I am just a little concerned with the eye relief so we will see how it goes. I do not like extension rings and will avoid them if possible.

Good luck with yours and I am sure it will shoot even better with a scope on there. By the way, that stock is designed primarily for use with a scope, open sights secondary IMO.

you will be fine eye relief wise with the 1-4 on the .416. I have a 1-4 on my .375 and for a while on my .416 Rigby I had a 2-7 leupold which also had plenty of eyerelief. You have made a great choice.

Thats great to know!

Do you have to use extension rings on your 416 Rigby with that scope?
