I purchased a new cz 550 in .375 H&H that I am having re-stocked as well as an action job and some metal work done on it. I'm having a problem with the rounds sliding back and fourth in the magazine and rattling. Has anyone heard of, or had this problem, if so is there a solution to the problem? Would a different bottom metal be a solution?

The rounds would slide and rattle in my CZ 550 458 Win but not in my Brno 375 H&H so I switched mag springs and no more rattle from either.The Brno spring was much stronger.

Anyone know where some stronger springs can be purchased?

Have the same issue. The sound actually is different with different rounds in magazine. Mine made no noise with 5 and 3 and made a rattling sound with 4 rounds in the magazine. I could tell how many rounds were in the magazine by rotating the rifle (safely off course).

Damn I want delta / air france to find my rifle and send it back home.

I know Duane Wiebe gets springs that are pretty stiff and has to soften them a bit in the oven. Not sure where he gets them but email him and I bet he'll help you out.

You'd better be careful when you start to replace magazine springs. First off the CZ and older 602 Magazines were overly long by design to accommodate the 416 Rigby OAL. I have noticed this rattle in about every 602 I have ever picked up chambered for 375, 458 Win and 458 Lott. A lot of it is due to the box width at the shoulder and base, coupled with the long box the rounds are subject to move at will. Most still feed fine. You put the wrong spring in, one that collapses to the front or the rear on a more acute angle you might reduce your magazine capacity in trying to remove the rattle of the cartridges. Like so many manufactures if you can get by with less by all means do so. The real issue with the overly long box is the momentum that the loaded rounds in the magazine exhibit when fired as the they are driven into the front wall of the magazine at considerable force and speed and will begin to dent the front of the magazine over time. You can confirm this by looking at the front inside wall of the magazine box after you have fired a box of solids.

My CZ 550s (a .375 and a .404 Jeff) both rattle when the magazines are full. If I load 1 less than capacity, no rattle.

My first attemt to stop the rattle with the cz .458 was to glue some very dense closed cell foam 3/8" to the front of the mag.There is still plenty of clearance for the follower and I have left it there.The spring change also improved the feeding to 100% with all the bullets I load. Before the stronger spring it was about 98% with 400 gr speer's and hornady 350 gr rn. The 500 gr rn were allways good once some polishing and rail work had been done. The Brno 602 still feeds without fault and the bolt slides a little easier without the extra pressure from below.Both will still take 6 in the mag and will feed the top round is this normal?.

I have no issues with my .416 Rigby but I'm going to have to rethink the .375. Putting a stiffer spring may cause some feeding issues but may be the only solution to the movement of the cartridges inside the magazine.

Will have to do some experimenting.
