M1, see if you can find some LBT Blue lube. I think it is the best for very HV cast loads. The NRA formula Alox/beeswax (like Javelina) lube worked OK for me up to 2200 FPS or so. | ||

ok, so the cast bullets seem to do ok within a strict set of parameters. I might have to try some of these tricks in my 45-70 to end my cast bullet frustrations. But, what about paper patched bullets in the new big bores? Any reason that a patched bullet wouldn't work well in the 416's or 375's? Aside from the extra work in preparing them, of course, they seem to be a great solution for avoiding leading (as the lead does not contact the barrel). Anyone tried getting these to work? Is there a practical velocity limit for paper patched bullets? I'm on my way to owning a new 375 H&H. What about cast bullets in this cartridge? Can you use full velocity loads here, or is it best to restrict velocity to 2400 fps or so? maxman | |||
