Hello,

I have lurked here for awhile. I have appreciated all the info, most especially in the Big Bore section. Thanks in part to this board I just took delivery of my first REAL big bore (not counting 45/70's & 444's).

My smith put together a 416 Taylor on a VZ-24 for me. All mate with a laminated stock, 23" #5 Douglas barrel. I have mounted a 2 1/2x Leupold and will take it for a test run this weekend. I have got some load data from Brian and I believe also CraigP on another forum.

I will get some pictures up if anyone is interested (looks a LOT like Craig's). Anyway thanks, and it should be just the ticket when I move BACK to Alaska.

Welcome to the forum. There are many 416 Taylor shooters in this crowd including myself. It's my up north rifle also. I have a Leupold 2.5 to 8 scope on mine and it seems to be just right. With 350 grain bullets like the Swift A-Frame or the Speer mag tip it is a 300 yard gun. I was shooting mine down at our new range with the 400 grain Hornady's at 2390 fps and was surprised to find the trajectory numbers from the reloading programs were way off compared to actual range tests. Sighted 3 inches high at 100 the 400 grain bullets would hit 3 inches low at 200 yards. I pit a Pachmayer triple mag recoil pad on mine and it's really nice to shoot.
Take good care,
Dave

Welcome to the forums and to a new addiction!!

you'll find, sometime in the next couple years, that the taylor is a nice heavy medium, and doesn't really kick... but it SURE feels like it today

Welcome I did my Taylor on a Stainless Ruger Mk II with a douglas 25 in barrel. I found IMR 4064 to give the best Vel out of mine. Every bullet I shot out of it so far shoots well.

Hello FishCreek,
I am new as well but welcome aboard. If you are enjoying this site as much as I am you are indeed having a ball. Sounds like a fine weapon you have there. I along with the others would sure like to see some pictures. Take care and God bless
