With many, many thanks to 470Mbogo, I have been playing with some "real" big bores for a couple of weeks. Sadly, I don't think I can call my .416 Taylor a true big bore anymore. I have seen the other side, and I am now addicted to the satisfying thump only 7500+ ft-lbs can provide. On the bright side, at least my gunsmith will be pleased by this (let's get a barrel on the way, Bill!).

Here are pictures of a couple of my friends shooting a 500 A-square. These were taken yesterday at lunch....

Just had to brag about Texas.

Nice gun, BTW

Always a critic in the crowd, eh? How the heck am I supposed to post a recoil oriented picture that would even compare to Ben????? Thanks 10.

FWIW, The guy in the top pic is about 210lbs, and the guy in the bottom is about 240lbs.

LDO,

The gun is 470Mbogo's. It is a BRNO ZKK 602 with a 24" barrel and a beautiful stock he made himself.

The loads shot in the pictures are 600gr cast bullets and 118gr of RL 15 for about 2400fps (if memory serves...I will double check).

FYI, the white stuff is about crotch deep. We are standing on frozen snowshoe tracks to shoot.

Longbob,

I've got some video of me shooting, but no pics. I am one of the rare rednecks out here that has figured out how to work a digital camera.

Hi Canuck

Please stop posting pictures of nice big bores in Brno 602 actions.

Everytime I see one I start thinking of rebuilding my .375 H&H into something like this! I just bought a MacMillan stock for mine... now I'd only have to swap barrels... Damn, there I go again!

This rifle looks like a lot of fun!

Cheers from a fellow Canuck (in Sweden)

Canuck, great pictures!

But they would be even better if you had smaller, skinnier friends....

You could let them shoot it straight up, and then measure how deep they sink into the snow for a real definition of "foot-pounds".

Let's see... 200 lbs X 4 ft = 800 ft-lbs.

Everybody who sees Ben shoot the T-Rex has the same question: "I wonder what 'Weelybop!!' means?"

Is that the name of the guy who is upset about the broken window?

Canuck,

I see that you enjoyed that .500A2 - I've shot it a few times with 470Mbogo. Quite a rifle!!
Just found an old Brno 602, one with the peep built into the receiver. It would be a good platform for a new project rifle, hmm....

Vasa,

I missed your post. Yes, they are a lot of fun, and that .500 A2 is a very beautiful rifle. I am now truly addicted to big bores!

I am still looking for a suitable action. Fortunately the gunshow season is not over yet!
