Hey all, gonna put together some dummy rounds, and then later will do load development, for 416 Taylor. Going to do both 350g. and 400g. I don't want to spend a fortune right now, as this is not for "Africa" right now.

so here is what I was looking at, any feedback on these?:

Hornady 400g full metal jacket

Speer Hot-Cor 350g.

Speer Trophy Bonded Bear Claw 400g.

Nosler Partition 400g.

thanks for the opinions, I am going to get this stuff ordered in the next few hours cause the dies are on sale right now but they only have 3 sets.

SORRY GUYS- I checked Midway and they were down to 1 set of Taylor dies at 78, they had 3 yesterday, so I had to jump on it. Went with the 400g. hornady's and the 350 grain speer. Hope they're good bullets! :-)

OK, but I will make one commit about 416 bullets and that is the new Nosler 416 bullet is the best expanding bullet for Buffalo that I have ever used and I have used just about all of them. It will leave two holes in all but the extreme angles.... If you like a bullet that expends all it energy inside a Buff then the new Woodleigh 450 gr. 416 cal. is a wonder bullet...

The best solid today is the GS customs bullet if you can get them...I regret the failure of Bridger bullets, that is a great loss to us...

thanks Ray, I will make sure to tell Jerry this when I give him the rifle. I just got these bullets for doing dummy rounds and then later doing some loads for him to play with. That is why I went with the cheaper offerings. But the Nosler were only 2 bucks difference I think and had I known ahead of time I would have got them, in fact I will call Midway and see if it is too late to change the order. thanks for the feedback.

Damn, day late and dollar short as they say, Midway in their wonderful efficiency already shipped the order out. Looks like I will have to tell Jerry and let him get them himself later. thanks again Ray.

I think Ray is talking about the nosler .416" 400 grain partition bullet.

The 400 partition works well and has shot very accurately from my 416 rigby - another dandy bullet is the Swift A-Frame 400 grain - also Kodiak makes some decent 350/400 grain bonded bullets - the Swift is the "prettiest" bullet, looks like they polish them well prior to packaging. The Speer 350 mag tip is a great bullet for the price. KMule

Don,
Nosler only makes one 416 bullet as far as I know, the 400 gr. The put a tougher than usual jacket on it moved the partition forward I think..

I have posted recoverd Nosler 416s on here before as I recall...

I have used the Swift and it just isn't my kind of bullet, it expands beatifully into a very smooth round ball that just does not exhibit the kind of killing power that I like..I like the claw like ragged edges of the Woodleigh or the penitration qualities of the new 416 400 gr. Nolser..

I will venture to say the new Nosler 400 gr. partition for the 416 is the best bullet I have ever used on Buffalo, regardless of caliber..but I am making reference to this one bullet in this one caliber..this does not mean the 300 gr. Nosler 375 is a good bullet for Buffalo as far as I know...

Ray,

I missed about a year of AR, so I didn't know they'd changed the partition. I'll search for your posts.

Ray - I seem to remember that Nosler mentioned moving the partition forward (maybe read this in a gun mag) in the new 400 grain bullet so I went to the workshop and (many apologies for the poor quality dissection, dremel tool failure so I resorted to a hacksaw ) - anyway, as Ray stated, the Nosler has the partition farther forward than the Swift A-Frame by a small amount - both look to be very tough bullets, I hope to test both this year on bear and moose in my new 416 remington KMule

Ray,

What, if any, experience with Barnes X bullets in 416 cal have you had on cape buff? What are your thoughts on 416 X performance? Thanks
