I have been quickly gleaning the treads here to find out if others might have a magazine jamming and action port loading problem with the Browning A-bolt. I think some do. I do. I get frequent jamming if I load the magazine of my 375 H&H A-bolt through the action port. I don't see any distortion in the magazine metal or parts. ???? Is it a design problem? When I load from the port it seems I have to feed the cartridge in from its base first and shove it backwards. (The action port seems to have been cut ahead of the magazine.) In the backwards motion of loading the cartridge the base of the cartridge seems to hook up (onto!) not into the back of the magazine and this happens frequently expecially when the first cartridge is in the magazine and is adding extra to the pressure of the magazine spring on the cartridge you are trying to load! Simply can this problem be fixed? Can the magazine be altered or can I buy a replacement? Or is my problem something else that I don't know about. I am not knocking Browning because everything else about this rifle is just right for me. But man! in a dangerous situation my 3 shot bolt rifle is a single shot weapon. Would like to know if others have experience my problem with this rifle and how they remedied it? Why shall there not be patient confidence in the ultimate justice of the people? Is there any better or equal hope in the world? Abraham Lincoln

I've had three different designs of detachable box magazine rifles including a Browning in 22 Hornet. I found all them to be cumbersome if not impossible to load through the port. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

I have had an A-Bolt II in .375H&H for 15 years and have never had an issue. I have loaded through the chamber when re-charging or topping off a magazine during a hunt without any problems. I have two magazines and both work well. I would suggest you begin by getting yourself a second magazine to determine if the problem continues; if so, send the rifle back to Browning with the mags and have them correct it. FWIW, I prefer to re-charge the mag by dropping the floorplate and loading into the mag while it is still attached. Try this as I find this much easier. I generally do the same thing, but I can top up through the port with my 7mm Remmy that I've had for 16 or 17 years. I've never had a problem topping it off. You might take it to a good gunsmith for some suggestions.
