I am close to buying one of the new Merkel double rifles (model 140A) in .500 3" NE (the purchase is just hinging on the sale of some of my surplus guns) so I would like any inputs/comments on loading data for the .500NE.

The Merkels are regulated with WR ammunition which I assume is made by Wolfgang Romley (spelling?) anyone know what this ammunition is loaded with? Or anyone have a contact address for them so I can purchase a couple of boxes of factory ammo (and then I can ask them about their loads)?

I load for my .500NE. I use Graeme Wright's book as a resource and have been pleased with the results. The load that regulates well in my double is:

RL 15 95gr. with 1/2 of a Kynoch foam wad
Woodleigh 570 gr. softpoint
Federal 215 primer

Geronimo

Westley Richards ammo:

WR ammo is in fact loaded by Wolfgang Romney using Dieter Horneber brass. I have been quite satisfied with the ammo in the past.

The 500 NE load I use is 110 gr. IMR4831, 570 Woodleigh, F215 primer, Bell brass, no filler. No filler.

Bob

How are you going to get a couple of boxes posted to you - ie sending ammunition through the post ?

Try this thread - .500 3 inch NE - standard load

John,

Thanks for the thread and I wasn't planning on bringing in the ammo myself but a mate of mine is starting up a small business that is going to specialise in bringing in hard to get cases and ammo - nothing to get rich on but a hobby that pays its' way (hopefully) and I was going to get him to chase them up.

I think I have Romney's address somewhere in an email somewhere. Will have a look for it.
