What's your favorite front sight for use with an express leaf shallow-V rear on a .375 or larger big-bore rifle?

Mac: Does somebody sell warthog ivory front sights, or is this a case of "first, get a warthog"?

I have a drill press and a 'spare' warthog tusk. Is there a core drill bit or something to cut a core out of the tusk and shape into a bead? If I could cut a cylinder, shaping a bead coouldn't be too hard. Bob

If you have a drill press, then use it to shape the bead with sandpaper. Cut off a piece of tusk, chuck it in the press and shape one end cylindrical... switch ends in the press and shape your bead.

Cut off the excess and epoxy it into your front sight. thumb

NECG makes a nice flip up "night site", they call it. It's a a 1/16" brass bead & then a 3/32" flip up ivory. I have one on my .404 & like it a lot.
bobc, try finding a dowel coring bit from a woodshop tool supplier. I'm not sure if you can find one as small as 1/8" but a place to start looking.

The best and most visible for me is the NECG fiber optic bead, which is 3/32" in diameter. I use it with an NECG rear with a gold inlaid center line.

I have this set up on four rifles and love it.

Bill, I think NECG sells front sights with Warthog beads, but I'm not sure! I made my own, from a tusk I had on hand. Like Ray I like the 3/32" bead, because I'm old, and my eyes don't see so well at 2 1/2 feet.

The best way to fit the bead is to install it in the steel front sight, and file it flush with the steel so it doesn't get broken off if it comes in contact with a rock, or something else hard. NECG sells a flip-up moon bead, that I believe is available in brass, or white, but I don't know what the white material is.

I like the fiberoptics front bead, but they look so ugly on a fine double rifle, that I keep resisting installing one! Sort of like mounting an AGOG scope on a H&H Royal double rifle! bawling The Ivory, or warthog fits, however! beer

I used to have a double rifle that had a little diamond in the front bead, and the back sight had a center line of inlayed platinum leading up to the buttom of the wade "V". It looked like a silver rod, with a diamond on top when viewed with the sights aligned. It worked quite well. The pearl would too, I'm sure! thumb
