I am wondering a lot of that kind of a subsonic rifle I should make. I want a hard hitting cartridge on short ranges (80-120m9, using well known components. I've looked at all the Whispers from SKK, but I need something that is easier to get the cases and bullets for. I saw their 50-70-750 (shortened 50-70case using 750grs Hornady bullet) and start to think of a 45-70-500 (shortened 45-70 case using a 500grs. Hornady bullet.) Does anybody know if this has been done? IF, I'd be very happy to hear their experiences. Any idea of rifle-twist needed?? ------------------ Arild.

Just stick a 500 gr bullet into a 45 LC case over XMP-5744 and fire it in a lever action rifle. That should get you pretty close.-Rob

I would pick whatever 45 caliber tickles your fancy, and have it fit with a fast twist barrel, 1-10. The downside to the whispers is they don't work that well with cast bullets, due to the fast twist, but, since the 500 458 bullets aren't that long, you won't need as fast a twist as the whispers firing the long target spitzer bullets. With small charges of fast powders, one can achieve some interesting quiet loads. Obviously the smaller the case, the easier it is to work up the loads.
