"The dimensions for the 40-110 are correct at the link." Ed Link: 40-110 Win Thanks Ed. Now, the 550 Exp uses a bullet that's .550" and is .589" just ahead of the belt. The 550 Magnum also. Both function well by all accounts I've seen. The 40-110 has a .651" rim, and .543" base and is 3.25" long. I see no reason that it can't use a .500" diameter bullet at it's full length and, at any short- ened length. But do our experienced wildcatters agree? D R, I'm certainly not from the category of individuals listed. However I do recollect from conversations with Michael that the Quality Cartridge brass delivered for his .500 caliber cartridges had the body dimensions od the .404 Jeffery rather than of the RUM case. And if I recollect correctly, only problem he encountered was with his .500 MDM where full pressure loads expanded the case body to more closely match the MDM chamber which is RUM based. Personally I don't see why your .500/40-110 cartridge wouldn't work. The only concern I can see is the quality of the brass pressure wise. Basically stay within the pressure the brass is drawn for and you shouldn't have any problems... Jim ![]() "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

The 550 Magnum is .582" ahead of the belt. I made the first ones. If you want a rimmed case with a .543" - 544" base ahead of the rim, to expand to 50cal, just use 450NE brass. Its mouth with .500" bullet in it would be .522". With a .510" bullet it would br .532".. Ed MZEE WA SIKU

Based on this: ![]() ... Yep, looks like that would be a great cartridge, but kind of weird unless you have a great source for brass of known specifications to work with. Exact neck specs are most critical, and you need to do the dummies with the actual brass and measure them before ordering the reamer. Here are some possibilities: No. 1 has the ghost shoulder at location of original brass shoulder, caliber-length neck, greatest neck diameter of the three mock-ups here: ![]() No. 2 has numerically beautified specs as to location of ghost shoulder, and a smaller neck diameter, caliber length neck, more in line with Ed's suggestion: ![]() No. 3 is a straight taper and no fussing with ghost shoulders. Neck diameter here at case mouth is same as what worked so well on the .500/.338 Lapua Magnum Improved aka 12.7x68 Magnum/49-10: ![]() Need to fine-tune this with actual brass loaded with .500-caliber bullets, in hand, with caliper measurements. Jim's brass-quality/pressure limit comments are also to be kept in mind when loading this cartridge. Could be a humdinger in a single-shot Ruger No. 1 or a double rifle. ![]()

EXACTLY! And if this is good then Hornady 400 NE Brass WOULD WORK with .500 or smaller diameter bullets as well! D/R Hunter Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

I'm still a virgin re. wildcatting. Let's get it done with .498" or .499" diameter bullet just to avoid the 50 caliber demon that idiot politicians key in on. Which brass is less costly, 40-110 Win or 400 NE 3"? And why make it longer than necessary to fire a 500 grain flat tip, driving band bullet at 2200 FPS from 20" bbl. So if that can be done in a Farqy with 2.5" brass SO BE IT ! Save some gunpowder money.
