jeffeossoSTC 2006
I think that each guy can tell his own story better than I can on this, so I'll lay out the frame work
When -Oct25-29
Where - Victoria Texas
Who - RNS, RGB, Gringo Cazador, George S, Fla30-06, Tiggertate, Mike D, Me.
What brought
376 Steyr
376 Steyr
375 HH
400HH (barreled action)
416 Rigby
458 lott/458lott (cz O/u double)
458 Lott
458 AR
470 AR
550 Magnum.
I passed on a blackbuck doe, a snap shot on an axis doe, and did NOT take the "4 of a kind" shot on 4 40# piggies, that lined up to the west, and the legs where 1 thick rear leg, open, and 1 thick front leg..
Had a wonderful time.. and George S, our newest friend, is an awesome guy, and fit right in them the rest of these oulaws!!
and the Shot is just a little tannerite and carcasses!!!

fla3006The most important thing I have gotten from AR is many fine new friendships. I didn't come to this event to shoot anything, and didn't, but just to mix with kindred spirits. I did come close to taking a chip shot at a spectacular axis buck, but he was skittish and I was paralyzed with awe. I have learned from the last two STC events that my practical upper limit is about 6K ft-lbs muzzle energy and not too much recoil impulse. Thanks again Jeffe.
(I should let the great Gringo Cazador tell his story but 4 legged species were not the only prey, or more likely he was the prey.)

RobgunbuilderThe hunt was a blast and was really all about the great guys and getting to talk with folks who actually OWN and CAN SHOOT really big bores. As opposed to the wannabe's and Poseurers of course.!!
I shot one hog in the head from about 135 yrds with my .458 Lott o/u CZ double rifle, open sights, then hit it again for insurance. That shot ends any concerns I have about the guns inherent accuracy. It's price went up too and I still had a hell of a time leaving Texas with it in my gun case! Other than that I also head shot a axis doe for meat with my .416 Rigby at about 80 yrds. I also had a great time shooting Jeffe's .470AR and Neals 550 magnum. Both are great cartridges easy to shoot and damn accurate.
GeorgeS did a super job on his initiation reading passages from the Necrominicon and taking the sacred oath to never ever own a DRG with a 1:10 twist! The flying pig and deer guts was spectacular as was Georges expression when it all went off!-Rob

JMJ888I knew I was going to regret missing that trip. Sounds like you guys had plenty of fun to go around.

fla3006I also got tickled with Buck, one of the guides. After sampling a few big bores for his first time, he tried twice to buy my Lott (I promised it to Jeffe on one of his birthdays, didn't say which one!) but he also spent the next 2 days on his cell phone trying to locate one. Instantly addicting.

I was a few hundred yards away when Rob shot that hog, and it sounded like a double-tap. A 135yd. double-tap to the head of a boar. The man can shoot!

jeffeossoForrest,
You did hear me CLEARLY warn Buck that touching off the 470 AR would be painful to his wallet, right?
Rob's "insurance" shot... first shot was about 1cm below/behind the eye... second was RIGHT in the snout, as the pig flopped and faced him... darn QUICK doubletap, too!!

JustinL01Rob,
Did you make that .458 yourself? Sounds interesting, I'd like to hear some more.

RobgunbuilderI just reamed it out to .458 Lott from a .458 win mag. Unfortunately, the CZ 589 O/u's are rare as hell with only a few imported into the US.-Rob

.366torqueRGB do you use "Lott" loads or are they tamed for the double?
02 November 2006, 07:01
jeffeossoRob's loads are full house lotts!
02 November 2006, 07:03
.366torquethanks jeffe! that's power!

RobgunbuilderThe loads are full house. No light loading needed for that gun. Point shoot and listen for the bullet strike.-Rob
