A perfectly adequate round for both dangerous game and large non-dangerous game at shorter ranges. Often overlooked, there are some real bargains out there on trim, sweet and very manageable doubles in this caliber. As a hunting caliber it is both effective and shootable, though not a sought after "stopping rifle" candidate in the eyes of many. http://www.african-hunter.com/site/archive_classcart/archive_africancart_part07.htm [This message has been edited by Nickudu (edited 06-28-2001).]

The 450-400 is a wonderfull and capable DGR rifle capable of killing elephants, Buffalo, LIon and whatever else crops up... It is, in killing power, far beyond the 375 H&H in my opinnion and I have used both, although on paper the difference is less likely to crop up....I presently shoot a 450-400-3" in a Jefferys. It regulates with a 400 gr. Woodleigh or GS at 2135 FPS, It will out penitrate all of the larger bores, according to the litature that I have read and it has pretty well done that in all my penitration tests.... John Taylor and Selous both carried a pair of them and praised them highly.. ------------------

Terry, the one caution I would give you is to only look at the 450/400 3" NE . The 3" version was never offered in a black powder version, so any rifle so chambered will be Nitro proofed. This can't be said of the 3 1/4" chambering! These two are not interchangable. Ray is right on the power of the 450/400 3" NE over the 375 H&H. On game there is absolutely no comparison between the two. The 450/400 3" NE has bullet weight, and frontal area, that makes it head and shoulders above the 375 H&H, or any 375 IMO, on game. The prices are right now, but don't wait, the word is getting out! ------------------
