Red dot sight on a DGR? Login/Join

I just bought a CZ 404 Jeffery. I was planning to put a 1.5 X 4 S&B on it, but I got a wild hair and thought " What about a red dot, like an aimpoint?". I don't even know if it's legal in Botswana where I plan to use it for Buffalo, but I thought I'd run it up the flag pole and see if you salute or piss on it.
Any thoughts?

I run an e-o tech on my lott and it works like a champ. 1 moa dot and aa batteries so just change em every day. the military risks their ass on em when being shot at so it works.

mount it in front of the action so you can get both thumbs over the load port if need be.

put one on a 416 rem for my dad and he loves it for old eyes better than iron.

i have a millet reddot on my ruger #1 .458 win mag... other than the dot is too big, it covers a deer-sized critter at 100 yds, i like it for feral hogs and axis deer at night...

go big or go home ........

I have a Zeiss Z Point, and an older EO Tec in mounts for my Blasers. I will be testing them on game with the R 93 and the D 99 Duo.

Recently when shooting an AR 15 at 100 yards with the new EO Tec, then mounting a 2.5 -8 Leupold the groups were the same size even when I used the scope at 8X.

Another sight worth looking at is the Doctor Optic. It is very small and compact. It is always on.

All Red Dot sights are battery dependant
The others must be turned on, that is there other drawback.

I would recommend you have both the 1-4 S&B with Flash Dot Illuminated reticle and a red dot fitted.

I was thinking about doing the same on my Ruger RSM 416 Rigby, but was concerned about how the sight would stand up to the recoil. I was thinking about the new Burris holosight so I gave them a call. They claim no problem with the scope standing up to the recoil, but they are only guaranteed for 1 year (their scopes have a lifetime warranty) which causes me some concern.

The holosights are very small, light have unlimited eye relief. Sounds great, but the warranty thing concerns me. If they are as tough as Burris claims, why not back it up with the same warranty as their scopes?

Anyone know what kind of warranty you get with an e-o tech?

You guys are over teching yourself for a dangerous game rifle. A shallow V and an Ivory bead or even one of the new red beads if you must, is the way to go, and a good receiver sight works well but..KEEP IT SIMPLE OR YOUR APT TO GET INTO TROUBLE. The KISS principle always works...

A nice 3x Leupold or a 1x4 or something on that order is all you will ever need on a DGR, if you must use optics. Remember you don't need a 16X scope to shoot a Buffalo at under 100 yards.

I know of several clients that couldn't find that little red dot on their buffalo, and who knows when a battery will go south regardless of fantastic claims.. go figure.

I over tech my golf game and my team roping but if I am wrong and I always am, I don't get stomped, bit or chewed on..
