I shot my CZ 458WM with a loaded mag box to see how it handled them under recoil.I loaded the 500gr at around 2150 fps, solids and softs.one TBBC soft on top of a mag full of Barnes banded solidssolids are in a good position and cases look great after firing one roundfull mag of TBBC'sTBBC's look great after firing the first roundrounds are in a good position and very little damge to the bullet nose after three shots It did great! Ralph did a great job on this.

Is that a custom magazine, or factory, or modified in any way?

Modified. It was shortened using a spacer, has a new feed ramp and I can't remember what else.I think there had to be some re-blueing done. The action is as smooth as anything.I've never before worked an action as smooth. It only feeds RN bullets.I wanted to test the feeding while rapid firing but my arm and shoulder were to sore and need rest.My Ruger is really hard on my bullets lately, but thats a lott. There are no sharp or rough surfaces in this polished CZ mag box, unlike the factory products.

Picking up on a couple of things you said -- "It only feeds RN bullets" meaning it doesn't feed pointy bullets?

My Ruger is hard on my bullets too. Maybe not so bad as to worry about it. But it's been a long time since I messed with a 458, and I forgot about some things, such as bullet tip damage from recoil - the bullets in the magazine slamming up against the front of the magazine.

I thought a long time about finishing out my 458, and considered the CZ. I went with a Ruger receiver for several reasons, but that's a long story.

It does not feed pointy bullets like the TSX and the swift a frame. It feeds RN bullets great and has never failed to feed a single round of the hundreds or thousands I've run through it while dry firing.

"hundreds or thousands"

Wow, I thought I was a stickler for feeding. I've run a lot of dummy and live ammo through my Ruger 458, but I have a long way to go to achieve the count of hundreds or thousands.

THE thing I worried about the most when I decided to have the Ruger barreled in 458 was feeding. I tested the crap out of that receiver before sending it to Pac-Nor. Now that it's barreled, I am very relieved that I have found no feeding flaws yet, with any bullet I've run through it, flat nose, round nose, or pointed nose. They just glide into the chamber. I'm so happy about that, so now I can concentrate on other issues, and load development, and ideas on how to improve the rifle set-up, stock, scope, sights, etc.

One thing different about my 458 is that I have no intentions of using anything heavier than 405gr, so I haven't tested anything heavier, since there's no need.

I really like CZs, however what I wanted was something in bolt action to shoot about equivilent ballistically to a hot 45-70. The CZ is too bulky and heavy, IMO, for the bush rifle I wanted. I basically wanted a bolt action version of the Marlin guide gun, but absolutely not chambered in any rimmed cartridge, especially 45-70.

Here is the 50yd target from this session. This CZ barrel was shot out some time ago.The rds will not strike a target at 100yds-they drop around two feet from where they shoot at 50yds.Here you see the Barnes banded solids shoot much lower than the TBBC's at 50 yds, with the same load. The CZ is having a hard time stableizing them at 50yds.500gr TBBC's and Barnes banded solids offhand at 50yds Three TBBC's and six BBS's.
