Vol717Case Teimmer for big cases
I posted this question on the reloading forum also. My RCBS rotary case trimmer won't .375 flanged, 450/400 etc. Which case trimmer tools tools work well with big cases?

DGR ShooterI've used a Forster "Classic 50" with good results. I've had mine for quite a while, so I'm not sure if it's still in production.
Part # CTK300
Hope that helps.

jeffeossomake one - its easy.
harbor freight mini chop saw,
Bend or whittle an L shape about 2.5+ long
put a threadheaded hole in the short arm for a depth set screw
marine tex gray the long arm to the bottom (will need to grind out a slot for it to set level)
chop... done.. on 550 cases, I have to rotate once...
can cut fine as frog hair for depth

SaeedUse the very best.
Wilson.
We use Wilson for all our trimming needs.

4WDNot sure if it is the best, but another endorsement for the Wilson.

ZephyrI use the Forster Classic for my 450 3 1/4 NE and for my Gibbs 505

SaeedWe use practically every cartridge size, up to the up 700 NE.
We have tried every trimmer would could get.
Wilson is the only one that meets our requirements.
I had a job getting a cutter for the 700.
And a very kind member of AR made me one.
Problem solved.
Case holders I make myself.

Michael RobinsonI have used a Lyman Universal trimmer for many years. In fact, it is the only trimmer I have ever owned.
It has a chuck-type head on it that accepts any case I have ever tried, all the way up to .500 A2 and .470 N.E.
I have not tried .700 N.E.
The great thing about it is that there is no need for case holders.

If I may ask, how are you holding the case in the lathe?
I have been using my lathe to turn case necks recently, but the method I use for holding the cases is not suitable for trimming to length. I use a short section of bar which I reamed with a chamber reamer. It gives me great concentricity but poor longitudinal control.

Vol717I've discovered little crow gun works best trimmer. Set the trimmer to the correct depth, put the shaft of the cutter, which is a milling cutter, in a lathe, mill or drill press, and hold the case by hand as the cutter turns. It trims quickly. Their big boy unit will handle big cases and you only need to buy a chamber for each cartridge you want to trim. They will do custom chambers.

Michael RobinsonDudes, if you need a lathe, milling machine or drill press, you are way out of my price range for a case trimmer.

dpcdOf course you are right. How to hold cases in a lathe; I made a collet with a cup end so the case always returns to the same datum point.

AtkinsonI only used file trim dies on big bores and some others, more accurate and not costly. I have a wilson and a Forester but I seldom use them as I buy a used file trim die every chance I get..My Forrester goes up to 50 cal, but I seldom use except when I have to its modified too a electric drill..

Magnum Hunter1Trimming is one thing I really hate and have several different setups/machines.
Jeffeosso, I already have one of those Harbor Freight cutoff saws but I can't quite envision exactly what you are describing. Is there any way you could post a photo of that setup? Thanks
