Hello, I feel pretty dumb as I just noticed this in a rifle I have owned for 2 years. My Rem 700 in 375 does not keep its bolt from opening when the saftey is ON. Is something wrong with the rifle?? I only own one other Rem 700 (it is a 458 wim mag) when you have a round chambered and the saftey is on the bolt won't open just like all other bolt guns that I have. Is this something that I can fix?? Should I be concerned?? THANKS

You just have a later production M700. They did away with the bolt lock feature sometime in the 80s I think. You can send it back to Remington and have the trigger/safety replaced to lock the bolt if you like.

Remington actually prefers to take your old rifle and remove the bolt lock rather than add a bolt lock. I'm not sure they would do it the other way. It's a stupid product liability thing regarding having to take the gun off safe to unchamber a round.
