Well, I decided to treat myself for my birthday and bought a used RSM in 416 Rigby from Cabelas. Hopefully will receive it late next week. Looking to acquire some things for it. Who makes a lever release quick detachable ring for it? I saw nothing on Talleys site and Warne makes them for M77's, but are they the same as the RSM ? I notice that the Hornady brass is fairly reasonable in cost but is apparently backordered everywhere, from a reloading standpoint, is it durable brass? Any general suggestions relating to either the Ruger or the 416 Rigby in general as to pet loads or necessary modifications? Thanks! DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) Congrats. The Warne rings for the M77 work fine on the RSM. Mike

Can't speak to the 416Rigby version of the RSM, but can on the 375HH and 458Lott. As for scope mnt. system use the Ruger system. One of the features I like about the rifle is that little is required to put them to work out of the box other than having them "glass" bedded. The Lott did develop a crack in the stock portion just ahead of the trigger, but bedding solved that problem, no further problems. No issues with the 375HH stock. Both rifles feed and function flawlessly and accuracy is very good. Even at full retail pricing, the RSM is a bargain when you consider the overall build of the rifle. To buy a classic caliber as the 416Rigby with a rifle of all of the RSM's features in a custom build would take a lot bigger bite of your wallet. Some are critical of the weight of the RSM's, squared style stock, etc., but even in the 375HH I don't mind the weight. Would say you have a classic rifle in a classic caliber.

You will like it! I always tighten action screws before I shoot and have had no problems. Hornady brass lasts and lasts.

Thanks for the replies. I will go over the rifle and bedding will be the priority. It looks like it has an OK piece of wood, for a Ruger. I may invest in having a stockmaker I know trim and reshape it more along British - style lines, or I always have a nice piece of English on hand for a restock. Anyone have any suggestions or experience as far as the Hornady brass? I know I can buy Norma, but prefer to keep my money in the U.S. unless the Hornady is junk. Thanks again! The factory-finished Hornady .416 Rigby brass is excellent. I have Federal, Norma, and Hornady. If starting over, I would make it all Hornady. The .395 Tatanka wildcat likes factory-finished unprimed Hornady .416 Rigby brass best. Just neck it down, load it up, and go hunting, trouble free.

I have a 375 H&H RSM. I sent it out to a custom maker and had the stock trimmed and recheckered. It is now my favortite rifle. It is VERY accurate. I use Barnes softs & solids in it & they are 300 grain. The gun will shoot both to same point of aim. Great rifle and a very good buy. On the heavy side for a 375 H&H but it holds on targetr better than ANY of my rifles.

Forgot to add that I can cycle the bolt on this rifle FASTER than any other bolt gun I have ever shot & I have shot many.

I don't like Ruger stocks or bolt handles so on the RSM in 416Rigby I had I put a straight handle on and slimmed the stock considerably. Shot beautifully but I just never became attached to it so I sold it. I had a customized CZ 550 in 416Rigby that I kept. All my brass was and is Mast (BeLL) and I'm happy with it but don't think it's any longer available. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS
