A Wby Mark V is obtained in 30/378 or 378.

I think the inline magazine would work fine for the 375 Ultra as well. THe Ultras would just sit up a bit higher.

Since Mark Vs don't use the action rails for anything except joinging the front and rear receiver rings, a magazine and follower could be obtained for the 300 Wby, so the rifle could also use the H&H based calibers.

Obviously a second bolt would be required.

Since the action is push feed, it would be easy to set up two actions so that barrels could be moved between the actions.

Lastly, if an Accumark was the chosen gun, no barrel lug would be required for the bigger calibers.

Of course if you wanted to be a real prick, it would be real easy to do one in 500 Jeffrey as the bolt face for the 378 is already OK and you could get the inlays into the stock [Big Grin]

You're all wet on the Accumark thing Mike.Call Weatherby and ask them why they won't make it in 378 or 416.They haven't figured out how to put a second recoil lug in the stock.Without it,those crappy Bell&Carlson stocks crack (yes, they crack)in the tang.

The ONLY synthetic stock that will take the 378 or 460 with only one lug is the McMillian.Ask POP,he's got one on his 378.

Other than that, your idea isn't half bad. There is NO better action than the Weatherby,IMHO.Sorry CRF folks!

BTW Mike,my 378 arrived today.Ohhhhhhhhhhhh [Cool] It's got great cream colored wood, and handels like a good quail gun.'Course it doesn't have a scope on it yet, which will of course screw up the nice handling.I'm in love already. [Big Grin]

To add to this we did a Mark V in .505 Gibbs for a customer once. I am sure all of those guys who must have Controoled round feeding would die over that.

Nauseating thoughts, y'all. I know you warned us Mike, but you knew we would look anyway. Quite cruel of you. And Alek rubs salt in the wound. Not pretty!

Have you seen Mitch's 500 A2?That is one nice looking Weatherby.I have always wanted to do that one,but bullets are way to expensive for my taste. One of these days I'll get a 300 rebarreld to 358 STA.

Brian,

I bet the Synthetic stock would work with one lug if it is the same sort of material as in Remington and Model 70.

I can't see why the Accumark stock would not work given the huge aluminium insert. The Accumark is in 338/378.

How about a 404 Jeffrey in the Accumark [Big Grin]

Mike,
The Bell&Carlson stock is CRAP when it comes to recoil.

A few years ago a guy posted on one of the boards (it might have been the Coffee Shop).Seems him and his buddys ordered either three or four Accumarks from the custom shop in 416 Weatherby.Every single one of them busted in the tang within the first box of ammo. All of them went back to the factory, and Weatherby hasn't made a big bore on the Accumark stock since.

The Weatherby DGR comes with a sythetic stock with 2 recoil lugs.Call Weatherby and ask them if the Accumark stock will do it with one lug in 378 or 416,and they'll say NO.The 338/378 is pushing it in that stock.

The McMillian is definetly the way to go.RickBin over on 24hrcampfire will sell you one for the Weatherby for $200 US dollars.Weatherby will sell you a barreled action.

Uh,I don't think the 404 would be that great in the Weatherby.Don't know why. What the heck is wrong with a 416 Weatherby? It can be loaded with 400s from 2200 FPS on up to 2700 FPS.Heck, what's wrong with everybody's favorite, the 378? [Razz]

A friend of mine, who just has to fiddle with everything, seriously continplated going a .423 on the 378 case, just to be different since there isn't going to be any difference between it and the 416 Weatherby.

Of course, the last cartridge John Buhmiller did was the 423 Buhmiller, which was nothing but the 378 necked up to .423.He was gitting some kind of custom 400 grain bullet going at 2700 FPS.He said it was the most impressive cartridge he ever turned loose on cape buffalo, which says a lot from a guy who shot cape buffalo into the three digits in control shooting with what was to become the 460 Weatherby and the 500 A2.

Glad to see a couple other folks like the MK V action. I found a used .375 Synthetic a couple years ago, put on a Douglas .416 Rem barrel, filed off the magazine retainer wings, and put it in a Accumark stock. It feeds great. I'm sorry to hear about the stock. My only other synthetic stock is a Rimrock. The B&C accumark stock shows much nicer fit and finish. I've fire a couple hundred rounds without problem using the one lug in the aluminum bedding block. I had understood that the DG and Accumark stocks were the same. In either case, they have a little more drop which I need for open sights.

Mike,
There was a guy somewhere on here not horribly long ago saying he had just bought a 378 barreld action from Weatherby.Just call them and ask.

Mac,
Why would you want me to come to Texas?I wouldn't think you'ld want my 378 hanging out with your rifles. Some of the Kalifornia might rub off on them. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I just thought you might want to introduce your Weatherbys to some real rifles. You know, kind of let them see the real world, outside the glitter of the circus show business! My rifles are grown up, and can tollerate over dressed clowns! [Big Grin]

Brian,

If you go to the Weatherby website and Production Upgrade, among other things is the Accumark Stock option for 378 or 416, which the website allows you to add to whatever caliber. About $100US more than the normal Accumark stock.

Brian,

You can't put the link up because they are selections.

But go to Weatherby.com and on the open page in the general listings you will see Building your own Wby or similar. Or click arond and you will see Wby Customs.

When you open the page for customs, down the bottom you will see a list like

Build a Custom.
Kreiger Barrel
Production Upgrade...This is the one you want. The you make the various the selctions from drop down lists

A custom rifle on a Mark V action?

That reminds me of when people used to turn Chevy Vega's into hot rods.

Mike,
Went there. You didn't read it close enough. It says "glass bed into Accumark stock-375 or smaller only".

They want $1550 for a 378 barreled action!!!Jeesh,I got my whole Mark V Deluxe for a whole lot less than that.

500grains,
My dad has a beautiful little 250 Ackley Improved built on a Weatherby Varmintmaster action, stocked in the classic style with very nice black walnut. With a Leupold 2.5x8,a magazine full of ammo and a sling it weights exactly 6 pounds.Every person who's seen it has loved, even a few guys who hate Weatherbys more than you do.
