This is what I call a "Man's Rifle"!

Over the last several weeks I have had the distinct pleasure of shooting a 500 A-square and a 470 Mbogo, courtesy of 470 Mbogo himself (thanks again!).

I have really enjoyed my initiation into the realm of these bad boys, and can't wait to get started on a project of my own after I get back from RSA.

I will post more details of my experiences later, but I thought it would be nice to show off 470's 500 A-square first. I will let 470 describe the details, but basically this rifle is built on a Brno ZKK 602 action, the stock is built by 470 Mbogo himself, and it has a 23" Pac-nor barrel.

The loads I was shooting (600gr A-square Monolithic solids, and 600gr cast) chronied at an average of 2430 fps at the range yesterday. What a hoot! Bring on the T-rex!

Canuck, just the sight of that bad boy makes my shoulder tingle! Seriously, a pair of beautiful rifles. I am now on the lookout for a 602 or such to build one! How much did you charge .470Mbogo for babysitting the "boys"?

For the 500 A-Square, what brand barrel did you use? What diameter is the muzzle? How much does the rifle weigh? What kind of accuracy are you getting? How is the recoil? Any cast off in the stock? Did you stock it from a blank or semi-inlet? Are you going to scope it? Shot any game with it?

The three pictures are of the same 500 A-Sqaure that I built. The barrel is a 23 inch Pac-Nor and the muzzle diameter eludes me right now. Maybe Canuck can fill that in for you. The rifle weighs 10.5 lbs. The accuracy is very good with the open sights. It's definately good enough for hunting. I made the stock from a piece of Walnut that an old friend (93years old now) gave me. It was big enough to be spit in two and make 2 stocks with it. I started with an original Bruno stock cut it down and then built it back up to the shape that I wanted. When I finished the original stock it was used to shape and inlet the present stock on a duplicator machine. There is no cast off and whether you use open sights or a scope the sights line up perfectly. I had the second stock duplicated also and it's on my 416 Rigby with a scope. The recoil is generous (112 ft lbs) but the stock design along with the Pachmayer triple X pad make it managable without a muzzle brake. It won't ever wear a scope and I haven't shot any game with it.I hope this helps you.

That would be my maximum rifle. Similar to my 510 JAB.

This might be the ultimate "shootable" big bore - GOOD stuff! I certainly enjoyed shooting it, although I admit that the CZ550 in .470Mbog0 was easier to handle.
