I picked up some Nosler 45-70 Ballistic Tip seconds from the Shooters Pro Shop. Shooters Pro Shop 2nds I was going to run them in my Ruger #1 45-70. Anyone have experience in shooting them in the 45-70 and how they have performed on game? I understand it to be a relatively new Ballistic Tip bullet but would expect that it is constructed a bit more stoutly than other BTs. Anybody got any information to share? Nosler has released the .458 cal 300 gr BST. Its is a very impressive looking bullet. I have loaded up some in 45-70 and will test them in my 1895 Guide gun for accuracy, penetration and expansion. Accuracy was was just over MOA at 100 yds measuring 1.12" for 4 shots, with the last three going .940". I was able to recover a bullet at 100 yds shot through 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water. The bullet went through 5 jugs and was found between jug #5 and #6. The recovered bullet retained its lead core and weighed 196.0 grs (65.4%) and expanded to .718". My second attempt resulted in an unrecovered bullet. I also recovered a couple bullets from the sand berm and they also retained their cores! I was not able to chronograph these loads yesterday due to the weather but will do so and report my MV next week. I expect that they should be going about 2100 fps. My initial thought is that this is a pretty robust bullet that will be excellent for deer, bear and hogs. Here are some 458 cal 300 gr BST recovered bullets, water jugs at 100 yds... MV 1963 fps 5 jugs. weight is 277.0 grs and expanded to .806". MV 2138 fps 5 jugs. (l) weight is 230.0 grs and expanded to .882", (r) weight 204.9 and expanded to .786". JD338

Hmm, I'm thinking about buying some. Thats's a good price. the only thing cheaper is remington bullets, but they become explosive at higher speeds. Those bullets are so new, that I'm not sure if anyone has gotten to try them on game yet. Here's some more info from someone else http://noslerreloading.com/php...p?t=12882&highlight=

I bought some from Midway a couple of weeks ago with a brass order. I will be looking at them soon, maybe this week over on the TBP thread here. I do love any sort of new 458 bullet. They look pretty good so far JD338. Michael http://www.b-mriflesandcartridges.com/default.html The New Word is "Non-Conventional", add "Conventional" to the Endangered Species List! This is my very first post here on AR. I must ask just what is it you would like to see the 405 Remington bullet do? Keep the fps under 2000 and it will kill anything in North America. Just how dead is dead?

Degas welcome to the forum! I have tried the 405 grain Remingtons in my Ruger and do not shoot them. The recoil is just too uncomfortable for me with that gun. I do like the 300 grain bullets though, and accuracy is very good (can't remember the make). Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. who said anything about remington 405 grainers? I was talking about the 300 hp. I would be scared to use the 300 gr hp on anything large or at anything faster than 1700 fps I like the 405 grainers
