Johan,

Dang need to use my bifocals. Yep, the 450 Rigby is listed. Although I agree about rimmed rounds in bolt actions, as least one poster on this site own's one ( a Heym Bolt 600 NE).

Liled... I am sorry. I live and learn and this is my first time posting a poll, I will make them more strait forward on the next one. I am somewhat surprised anyones choice would be different within the calibers listed. NONE of them are lacking in taking the big 5.

smallfry,

Could not vote as my choice is missing.

There are actually several good choices not listed. Such as all the big Dakota's, 375, 404 416 and 450. None of the double rifle cartridges that have been built on bolt actions like the Heym 600 NE come to mind, also the 450 G&A, 425 WR, 425 Express, 416 Taylor, 450 Vicent, 416 and 450 Howell, 450 Rigby et al..

I voted for the 450 Rigby and it's on the list. Did you forget the welding goggles on

A bolt action rifle in a flanged caliber is just as foolish as a double in a non flanged caliber. I'm pleased that smallfry didn't list them in this poll

I voted like it was the only gun I would take. If it is the big five 500A-square or 505 gibbs. for me. I already voted the 416 weatherby.

Same thing happened to me. I tried to vote and it said I voted already which I didn't. What's up? For the record I was going to choose the 375 H&H.

smallfry,

Could not vote as my choice is missing, 404 Dakota, which I am currently building (actually John Ricks is, on a Brno 602 action).

Some marketing research. Very simple... You want a Big bore for Africa, .375 and Up, which cartridge do you choose? The rifle will be a bolt action, with iron sights and for scope use if desired. This poll will stop on the 18th. You must vote to see results.

Tried voting for the first time (2/15/04 - 11:39 a.m. Central) and it said a vote had been cast from this IP address.
Why would it say that?
What is an IP address?

No one has access to my computer except my wife and I know she has not voted in a big bore poll.

Intresting so far, 416 Rigby in the lead, the 375H&H close behind and the 458Lott running back in third.

Shadow... I am sorry I did not add the 404 Dak, I was thinking of it but figured it would have just add space. I just picked a few cartridges that have shown some popularity on this board and a few old stand bys'. Interesting results though Huh? For those who could not vote... perhaps you should take that up with Saeed, maybe he has a explination. Kinda fun stuff though, maybe we should try this again in a few months.

Does anyone here have a problem voteing on any of these polls? Everytime I try a message always comes up stateing I have already voted! Unless someone else is useing my E-mail address, then something is wrong with this feature on theis web-site! I would like some one on the staff to check and see if, in fact, someone else has voted on this site under my ISP!

Smallfry,

I will take either a .400 H&H or a .404 Dakota on my next hunt depending on what I "need" for my next feature article.

Sorry smallfry.

Just to clear this up once and for all do you guys see the results screen after you vote?

Or more vote screens every time you come back?

And I get unlimited votes. Everytime I log back on to AR I have to vote to see the results again. Or is this the same for most others?

You can cross three 505gibbs votes off the list if mine are adding to it every time.

Smallfry,

Interesting poll! Currently The "Big Five" Cartridges for "Big Five" Game are:

61--416 Rigby

40--375 H&H

34--458 Lott

30--416 RemMag

26--404 Jeffrey

Now if the 404 moves up to third, then its a British triflecta and they are neigh on 100 years old to boot!

Good Luck and Good Hunting,

I only saw the "vote" screen one time.

Too bad John Rigby isn't here to see this! I have a 416 Rigby and like it a lot, but always felt I was in the minority compared to the seemingly popular 416RemMag.

No surprise on the 375 H&H and 458 Lott.

I'm not particular about caliber about any 40 caliber up suits me...I own at the present a 375, 416 Remington, 404 Jefferys, 10.75x68 and a .470 double...Anyone of them will do for anything in my opinnion...My next safari will be with the 10.75x68 and the .470 if I don't sell or trade them off, I am a gun whore you know...

378 Weatherby is my pick of all the big bores and I would have 375 Ultra as second choice.

Not because they are any better than the 375 H&H but because they offer much greater loading flexibility.
