well yesterday i broke my second leupold on my 450 ackley....7 shots and it was blurry and gave it a shake and you can hear it rattle... maybe this should be a peep sided fellow..who makes a stainless barrel banded front sight that would be a good qaulity, the barrel diameter a half inch from the muzzle is .710, thanks for everyones input.

Sorry, not an answer for your question but which Leupolds failed on you? NRA Lifer; DSC Lifer; SCI member; DRSS; AR member since November 9 2003 Don't Save the best for last, the smile for later or the "Thanks" for tomorow

grizzinator, what model rifle, rings, and scope? You might try NECG for the banded sight but I don't think they make it in stainless. Sounds custom to me.

rifle is a montana rifleman in a bell and carlson stock so its pretty light. the scope was a vx31.5-5 in leupold qrw rings and mounts..

grizzinator, I guessed that the scope was a 1.5-5 Leopold 20mm. This a recurring problem with these scopes IF, and I mean IF, the front ring is located over the front lens. Tightening the rings can pop the lens loose or break it when mounted this way. These scopes are just a tad short for mounting on magnum length actions. Having said that, we use them all the time on our big bore rifles such as the 585AHR and 600 OK without problem. You must keep the front ring behind the front lens and not over-tighten. On the CZ magnum action there is not a lot of room to do this but it can be achieved. Leopold needs to make this scope a little longer, but I doubt they will. Try offset mounts on the MRC.

Well, that's pretty disappointing. I have only had good experiences with Leupold scopes icluding the 1.5-5x, 1.5-6x LPS, 2.5-8x Vari-X III and VX-III on the Leupold QR mounts on my .416 WBY, 30-378WBY, 8mm Rem Mag and 350 Rem Mag. All of these rifles probably weigh a bit more than yours so the recoil velocity of your rifle is probably higher. Even if you get that stainless barrel-band front and peep rear, you should consider a fixed power scope - 2.5X or 4X - fewer parts, less weight and complication internally and less likely to fall apart under the recoil of your rifle. I'd be interested in Leupold's customer service response.
