need help in choosing between leupold x3 1.5-5x or burris 1.75-5x safari taper plex posi loc. i am using talley qd rings . does anyone have a burris and how is the quality
I would personally opt for a 1-4 Vari X11 as I think the VX111 range unless needed for long range varmints etc. is verging on the law of diminshing returns. Ray also for some reason he has not pointed out prefers the 1-4 leupold over the 1.5-5. Hopefully he will post why.
I am actually thinking of getting a 1-4 for my .375 as I have had drama's with a 2-7 leupold I think, it could be mounts

The field of view is probably greater with 1-4x ,although it couldnt be to much difference. The january issue of rifle has a burris 1.75-5x on the back cover that's pretty nice. Just wondered if you would trust Burris on your dgr.
I've used a Vari-X 111 1.5-5 for years on .375s and .338s (in rough service; cold, mud, saddle scabbards and boats)with no problems whatever. I've only had a couple of Burris's, but always felt the Leupolds were better. If you go with the Vx-3, I doubt you'll ever regret it....

GSP, I have the 1x4 vxII, that I had leupold re-reticle, on my 416 rem.
1.5x5 vxIII on my 376 steyr. I used to have it on my 416, but I like the greater mag on my steyr, and "wide open" view on my 416.
IF (good god, i don't need another scope cut) I put one on my 500 jeffe-ry, it's to be the m8 2.5x fixed. bright as day, and nuttin to screw with. jeffe
i've got the vari-x III 1.5-5 on my rigby and i'm very happy with it. i had a leupold 2.5 fixed on a 458win and it was nice too, but i like being able to zoom in on those smallish whitetails at long range
never had a burris but my cousin sees a good bit of them at benchrest matches and says they're good scopes-- still we both prefer leupolds.
Anything a Leupold VX-II does, a Burris Fullfield II does as well or better for less $$. Same goes for the Vari-X III and the Burris Signature scopes.
Sorry, but Leupold isn't the only one that knows how to make high quality, affordable scopes. BTW, Leupold does not have an edge over Burris on warranty coverage. You buy a Burris rifle scope, new or used, and you are covered for as long as you own it.

I am running a Trijicon 3-9X40 on one of my .375 H&Hs, and a Kahles 1.75-6X42 on my .376 Steyr. The .375 had a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5X20 on it, and that worked well for plains game. I took it off and put on the Trijicon for a Leopard hunt in '99, and it sort of stayed on there since.
I am thinking that the scopes in the 1 to 6 power range with an objective of say 36 mm or larger is a better general purpose sight for the .375. YMMV on your hunting conditions.

Does your Trijicon have the illuminated retical, and how do you like it. I thought most gun fanatics use a smaller power scope on heavy callibers. Hows the Trijicon at dusk and dawn.
