In the past I've several Mauser M03 owners post photos of their new rifles.

I wanted to see how the Mauser M03 owners like their rifles. I realize it is a push feed rifle. I was more curious about quality, accuracy and durability of M03.

Thanks!!

I'm saving for an '03 in 404 Jeffery. I've only handled an Arabesque model. I thought it had great features. It most certainly ain't your daddy's '98 Mauser. Yes, it is push feed and I have no problem with that.
I'm looking forward to getting mine. I will buy mine from Tip Burns in Canyon Lake, Texas.

Hello Rusty,

I am becoming more interested in these rifles. One thing that I have found really odd. I have handled 5 different M 03 Africa rifles. They were all priced close to $4,000. However there were massive differences in the wood grades on the stocks. Two of the rifles had incredible wood. The stocks on the other three looked like bed posts from a homeless shelter. I'm not a wood fanatic, but if you $4K on a rifle, I'd expect a decent stick of wood.

TBD, I've noticed the same thing. There is one at the Ft Worth Cabelas with wood you would find on a boat paddle and they want the big bucks for it. JC

Yep some of the wood is pretty plain but they also put some nice sticks on some of them, I looked at Rusty's Arabesque and it has a fine stick of wood on it. I've also "coonfingered" a very nice old world classic and it had a knock out stick on it!

The MO3 is a very, very nice gun and I can tell you fist hand they shoot. One is in my future. Wink

I really like the M 03 Africa, but the cost seems really high for an out of the box rifle. This week I called a couple Mauser dealers and the M03 Africa in 404 Jeffery would cost about $5200. At or near this level, you can get a custom built rifle. A friend of mine recently picked up an Empire rifle in 404 for basically the same money. How does the M03 compare to an Empire?

An M03 in 404 Jeffery would be really cool!!!!

True, the Empire's are nice, but they will not be a take down and will not have the barrel exchange ability for the $5200 dollar price tag.

Really it's apples and oranges. One is a production gun (although a really nice one) and one is a true custom.

The MO3 can be had abit sooner than the Empire, and the MO3 if I'm not mistaken comes with a case and sling and maybe a mount? not sure?

The M03 rifles are good guns. The price is for my opinion to high, but this is at this time normal. The scope mount is ok, but for me not the best solution. Drilling for EAW pivot mounts or a picatinny rail would be the better choice.
The M03 is not a Mauser/Oberndorf product. The Mauser AG sold the name "Mauser Jagdwaffen" to Blaser/Isny. And this company will now produce this new rifle and the M98 reproductions. But bad people are meaning, both, the M98 and the M98 Magnum are made by a third company. Prechtl?

The Mauser company in Oberndorf, part of the Rheinmetall industries, only making weapons like the MK27, installed in the Tornado or Eurofighter.

I was told it comes with a case and sling, but the mount is an extra $550 or so. I really like M03 but the price tag is too much for a production rifle IMO.

TBD,
I'll be glad when I've got money saved up for mine. I hope they will be a great system! The idea of taking several calibers on a hunt sounds good to me!

Payed with one this weekend in .375 and 30-06.

Very accurate- like match quality from the .30-06

I like the detachable box mag, and I quite like the safety/combii cocking system. Would I buy one to replace my F.N. made mauser...probably not, but it is a nice system and very smooth.

With 3 clients coming over with the 03's and seeing them in action I'm impressed the only downfall I saw is the detachable magazine with a few grain of sand or soil the magazine didnt clip in properly and the ammunition didnt load reliably.

But meeting the Mauser Rep in the UK in March he told me that the case comes with a allen key that screws your magazine tight so it is fixed and since you can feed the 03's from the top the problem should be gone.

Otherwsie if you have the money I give it a big thumbs up.

Frederik, that magazine option is one of the items I like about the '03.

I have a Mauser M03 in .404 Jeffery with both the 1" and 30mm scope mounts. Shoots great, nice straight grain wood, but nothing fancy. Never hunted with, just used at the range.

I have several other .404 J and if someone is possibly interested in my Mauser M03, shoot me a PM.

Have a M03 African in 375 and another barrel setup for 308. Decent wood, don't know what grade, but they have many different "upgrades available".

Gotten Noslers Partitions (308) and Barnes TSX/Solids (375) to shoot consistently and accurately.

1" and 30mm ring set up, mix and match always return to zero. Many rounds down range since I've gotten, never a malfunction, hiccup etc.

Breakdown works great, appreciate I can use my short Starlight case, M03 on one side with scopes and barrels and another breakdown rifle on the other. Compact and easy to transport. No worries of "oversized".

Will get tested in 2.5 weeks in the Bushveld.

I was at Tip's today and saw the rifle Rusty was looking at. I have no experience with it so I asked Tip a number of questions about them as his son works for the importer and has had some experience with them. They also import the Blaser. I have shot a Blaser in about three calibers and all shot sub MOA. I think the Blaser is the most accurate over-the-counter rifle you can buy. I also think they are butt-ugly. From what Tip said, the M03 has as good accuracy as the the Blaser and looks like a real rifle. He said that barrels are just like the Blaser (in fact the M03/Blaser/new Mauser 98's are all made by the same company) and just as accurate as well as being as verstile as the Blaser (interchangeable bolt heads, barrels and magazines). If I could afford either the Blaser or the M03, it would certainly be the M03.

Well I will soon be Mauser M03 owner. Today I found an Arabesque combi gun 375 H&H and 300 Win Mag. It has 1" and 30mm mounts, 2 magazines and a factory case, all for $3500 delivered. From the photos it looks in new condition. I can not wait for it to arrive!!!

Now I begin my Double Rifle project. I am thinking 450 NE 3 1/4", maybe Searcy or Heym???
