I am exploring many options for my next rifle. I read about the many "custom built" rifles that you folks have done. I have a $2500 budget. I have absolutely no idea what actions, barrels or gunsmith work costs. Let's say that I wanted it in a .404. I saw a CZ action on gunsamerica for $450. Is this a fair price? $200 for a 24" barrel? NECG front and rear sights,$300. CZ bavarian stock from CZ-USA, $190. Barrel band, bedding, cross bolts, on and on and on. Who has done this, who have you used, am I way out of my league????

Mine is on this thread and I've got about $2000 in it and I did all the work myself. Gary, I think your budget is well within reason for what you want. Also, the great thing about a project rifle like what you want is that you can go at your own speed. When you have extra spending money, you purchase the new (custom) part you want...barrel, sights, wood, etc. You may find yourself putting a little extra money into the project when you do it that way too, just because you have the money to spend. I've had project rifles that take years to finish, just because I want them a particular way, and have to save my pennies to get to that point. One problem, and ask anyone here, it's an addiction. I have a CZ Bavarian take off stock that I would sell. It was pulled off the rifle right out of the box and is 100% new and factory condition. Drop me a PM if you are interested
