ldmay375416 Ruger
Friday I picked-up my 416 Ruger Alaskan from the gunsmith. I had it bedded in a McMillan Ruger Classic stock. This I really like.
By "feel" I don't think I can tell a difference in weight. This stock has the molded in color so is a touch heavier than the painted ones. To me the feel and handling are a dramatic improvement over the factory stock.
If it shoots as well now as it did in the rubber Hogue, I will be satisfied. Of course, always hoping for an improvement.
I am putting a Zeiss HT 1.1-4x24mm on it. This scope with the #54 reticle and tiny illuminated dot in the center of the intersection, is my version of optical express sights. Not a tiny target reticle for sure.
I think with the 350 grain TSX and/or tipped version, this is "my ideal" in the timber/brush Alaskan combination.

That is a great improvement over a Hogue stock.

You could re-barrel it to .458 WinMag and have a "Spruce King."

ldmay375Jeffeosso, to me the precise description; fun !
The 416 Ruger and Remington, I do thoroughly enjoy shooting. And this Ruger with the 20" barrel is about ideal for me. Has the handiness of a big bore lever carbine in a bolt package.
I really like the Ruger 375 and 416 cartridges. I am a big fan of the 375 Ruger also in 20" and longer barrels.

ldmay375RIP,
I believe, I will be leaving this one as is.
However for a couple of decades, I have been mentally kicking around a SS Ruger re-barrel to 458 Win.
I do have an Interarms Mark X with the express sights in 458 Win and a AHR improved CZ 458 Lott, with synthetic stock, 22" barrel, 3 position safety and trigger, sights etc.
Probably would have already done a 458 Win SS, if Barnes would have continued the 400 grain when they did the TSX bullet. Perhaps the Trophy Bonded 400 grainer will actually become available.
And still need to try the 400 NorthForks.
Edit: The CZ is a Lott
