EAW scope mounts on 375 Login/Join

I'm planning on moving a couple of EAW mounts from an old rifle (6,5x55) to a new CZ 550 in 375. The scope is a fixed Swarovski 4x32. I believe this scope in combination with simple removal/installation would be perfect. Do any of you gentlemen have any experience with such a combination?

Hi Wachtel,
I've never had the EAW's on anything bigger than a .270 Win., but I've been told that they don't handle heavy recoil well--I guess some consider the .375 H&H to have heavy recoil. I think they have come out with a new version made for magnums. If they work on your rifle it would make a good rig to be able to remove the scope for use with the iron sights.
Good Hunting!

Hi Wachtel,

I had a Kahles 3-12x56 connected with an EAW-mount to a mauser-bolt action in .375H&H.

Never had any problems with that!

Nevertheless I bought a Leupold QR mount for my .300 WinMag.

As I bought the gun just 2 qeeks ago, I haven't got practical experience with this combination yet...

Anyway - I can recommend the EAW mount for the .375H&H.

Cheerio

I've bought 3 EAW mounts so far (7x64, .300 Win Mag & .338 Win Mag) and am very satisfied with their reliability and return to zero when swung out/on. As previously said, one could only find fault with the cost but then, quality is never cheap and EAW mounts are works of art.

Harold Wolfe of Hatari Magazine fame who is in some way affileated with EAW, stated in one of his articles that EAW did not handle recoil well, and came out with a modification that corrected the EAW's fault, but I don't recall what it was, something to do with installation as I recall and he did a follow up article on that ??????

The only problem I can see is the different measures of the actions. Perhaps you will have to buy new bases or machine the old ones.

The quality of Apel mounts is very high, but they recommend Loc-Tite or soldering(!) on rifles with heavy recoil. They have some words about that at www.eaw.de - there is a English version low on the left side.

Best regards,

Fritz

I have EAW mounts for about 20 years on several Magnums including a fairly light 7mm. Rem. Magnum and a 9.3 * 74R / 12+12 Drilling. If there are any problems (unless poorly mounted) I would like to know specifics.

This is all good news to me--my Heym 270 went to my son about 10 years ago and I haven't had EAWs on anything since then, but I really liked them a bunch. Looks like more $ is about to leave my wallet!
Good Hunting!

If you totally recontoured the square bridge profile of the receiver on the CZ 550 Magnum, it would be workable. If you just recontour the bases of the EAW mounts to fit the existing CZ 550 profile, you are going to be left with a mount that is too high for many shooters' tastes. Also the add on bases on top of the CZ 550 integral bases (if not recontoured) will definitely obstruct use of any CZ factory iron sights. Been there, done that, and un-done that!

Too much trouble FWIW. Do you really want to cast to the wind the excellent CZ mounting system to recycle some EAW mounts you have on hand? I would think twice about it. QD CZ mounts can be had after all.

As you are in Sweden, you should be able to find them at some gun dealer, as they were distributed by Husqvarna until they sold to HDF-Gyttorp. I think I saw such a mount at stlunds in rebro earlier this autumn. Their phone number is 019-27 12 14. Perhaps they can help you.

Best regards,

Fritz

Wachtel,
Go to

www.brownells.com

Click on "products" and do a search on "Warne" as the manufacturer. Warne's BRNO rings will work on the CZ integral bases. I have used them. they are good.

The Warne mounts come as QD or fixed. The QD's cost about $125 US, so they are not cheap.
