My buddy drew a Moose tag and his heart is set on using his Win 1886 lt. weight TD in 45/70. It has a serial #>100K.

I know nothing about this rifle, or cartridge, but my buddy has found old articles with reloading recipes of 400gr Barnes bullets over 53gr of IMR3031. Does anyone have experience with reloading for this rifle? I appreciate any opinions.

I'll be backing him up with my Whelan.

If he wants to try loading it the old fashioned way, black powder and lead, I'd be glad to help.

Hell of a moose rifle though.

Try 38gr of H4198...1750fps
52gr of H4895/AA2495
50gr of IMR3031
or 50gr of IMR4064

Per Barnes they are all good for about the same velocity.

regards,

Rich
