I'm patiently waiting for the import of the double from eaa. I was wondering though. What is this thing going to look like with the jack screw set up. The pictures on their website do not show the top of the barrels. I just hope it doesn't look like the o/u set up.
Anybody actually seen one?

C'mon.

Nobody has seen this thing. I thought they were already selling in Europe.

What do you guys think it will look like. I'm thinking it will look just a little better than their over/under.

turfman,
i haven't seen one... these are NOT even related to the OU... in all honestly, as long as there's not a huge acme screw showing, i wont care... I am not expecting much, just that it matches their shotguns izh43 in quality.. in that matter, the metal fit and finish is okay... better than some, less than most... the stocks tend to look like matchstick wood... then again, I usually have to restock anyway...

mine's on order, and has been for 15 months

I saw one at the SHOT Show in Orlando a couple of years ago. It looked quite decent for the price, and the jack screw wasn't obtrusive in the least. If I remember correctly, the jack screw was operated by a knurled wheel in the barrel rib.

Thats good to hear.

I was hoping there was some sort of barrel rib to cover the gap in the barrels.

Turfman, you can't expect much for $600 where a double rifle is concerned! It is a fact that the rib will have to be floating, in some fasion, to be able to warp the barrels for regulation. The Blazer uses a removable rubber rib to cover the space between the barrels, and I suspect this will be something like that. At least half of the barrel set must be free to move in relation to the regulation screws, for convergence, and horrizonal adjustment. This means the rib cannot be perminantly attached to the barrels!

Like Jeffe, I will most likely buy one of these, simply because of the cheap price! $600 wouldn't even buy a set of good express sights for real double rifle, so not much will be lost if it is complete junk! If it turns out to be worth the trouble, I'll buy the 45-70 version, and rebarrel it with 20" barrels, to 30-30, and pernently regulate it, and permenantly fix ribs, and install good sights. That would make a nice woods deer rifle, that could be made in the six pound range, and be as short as a 16" barreled trapper rifle. HANDY!

I don't think we will see them any time soon, as the actions used in these rifles are the same that is being used to make the new SAVAGE double barrle shotgun, and their own shotguns. the shotguns will sell far better than the double rifle, so untill the SAVAGE contract is filled, they won't be makeing the double rifles, in my opinion! They say it is red tape, but that is simply something to keep people off their backs!

Mac.

I agree 100% with you. A fine double rifle is out of my $ range and I don't really need one. That being said; I will gladly give $600 to my local shop for something to play with. I was thinking on the same lines as you; find a load for the 45/70 and perminantly regulate the barrels. I was hoping that I didn't have to machine a barrel rib for it. And as you said, when you put better sights, machine a rib and work it over the economies of scale start to become evident.
BTW: I did not know that Savage was in the mix. Now it all makes sense.

Thanks for the info.

Turfman, Savage is only involved in that the shotgun is being made for SAVAGE by Biakal, useing the same action as the double rifle, and the shotguns for EAA! The fact that the shotguns sell far better than a cheap double rifle, they are filling the shotgun contracts first, IMO! Once the orders are filled for the up coming early bird season, they may start dedicateing the actions to the double rifles, that means next spring, before there will be anything on the market, I would suspect! I may get fooled on this one, but I doubt it!

PS: several different blank ribs can be bought from GALAZAN!
