I recall you mentioned the 460 weatherby. Have you used any lesser calibers on moose, and what were the results?

Hmm lets see.. I have shoot many with the 6,5 x 55 with 150 grain swift bullets. The results have been different. They have run from 0-300 yards with shoulder shoots. One time I shoot a moose right in the heart with a 140 grain nosler and the hole heart was in little pices. But it run 50 yards anyway. Then I have used a 7 mm rem mag with 170 grain norma oryx bullets. I shoot one moose with it at 300 yards in the shoulder and it run for about 150 yards berfore it was dead. And I have not shoot a "standing" moose with my .460 yet. Just one who was already shoot with a 6,5x55 and was laying on the ground. I am now thinking about to sell my .460 and buy a semi automatic Heckler&koch in caliber .338 win or in 9,3 x 62 And put a muzzel brake on it so I can shoot many shoots VERY fast. I think it will be a more effective moose and bear rifle than my .460 becasue I cant shoot a fast 2nd-3nd shoot with my .460

HAVE STROKED moose with a .300Win mag using 220gr loads and managed to keep it anchored, but only by repeated hammerings and having broken the rt ft on the first shot. First shot it fell, got up to go, hit it again, then hit it again before it keeled over. Have seen a moose calf absorb 12 shots out of a .270 and 3006 before it succombed to the weight of the lead. Have seen a decent sized Ontario moose take what should have been a good shot, just walk off and not even act like it noticed. It took 2 more hits, then strolled off into the bush for about 300yds getting into serious dense before keeling over. Last moose I took my .375H&H, simply because I wanted to anchor and not chase. Shooting 300gr Nosler partitions broke both shoulders with first shot. Makes life easier that way. Moose are easy to kill, they just don't know it sometimes.

I shot a moose with my 416 rem last September, 130 yards. Bullet was a 350 gr. Speer Mag-Tip @ 2540 fps. Bullet entered behind left shoulder, centering a rib, smashing both lungs, and broke the right shoulder, then exited. Bull made it 15 yards on wobbly legs, then flopped. The entrance wound was pretty big, from the rib fragments, and there was quite a bit of blood on the ground.

I've only shot one moose (cow) with a 200 gn .300 Win through the lungs and was disappointed by her lack of reaction. She went on for 300 m as if nothing had happened, then laid down, dead... Next time, I'll go with my .338 Win, hoping to get more attention.

I have seen the same thing to. A perfect placed shoulder/heart shoot with .338 win,30-06-6,5x55 and the moose have not react at all. It has just walked away easy and then after 50-100 yards they go down. To all guys Robgunbuilder-500grains-Karl-PC I HAVE NOW FORGET THE STOPPING POWER AND KNOCKED DOWN THINGS. The only that is important to stopp a and kill a animal fast is how big the wound channel is and how deep the wound is. A .600 OK with "light" loads 1950-2000 fps is the best stopper becasue you can get fast 2nd-3nd shoots whit low recoil. Flat nose solids for africa DG and softs for european big game as the moose.
