I'm having a LH Ruger Mk II reworked into the 500 AR and am curious about what can be done to increase mag capacity. 2+1 is ok but I would love to be able to get 3 or more down. I will be having McMillan build a custom stock for the rifle. I am VERY ignorant on the subject and am curious what type and how much work would have to be done.

Any suggestions?

You can get a coffin box or a deep floor plate made

It's needs milling from a solid block of steal or aluminum.

I looked into it a few months ago and it's not cheap

But three quick shots with full house loads from your 500 AccRel, will leave you wanting to take a quick break to reload

Sunny Hill makes a specific deep box magazine for the McMillan Safari Model stock. That is the way to fly. Call Sunny Hill direct or just talk with McMillan. Your application is exactly why it has been designed.

S&F, I don't think that I would need anything this difficult done because I am having the new stock made.

Jeffe had said that it lacked maybe a 1/2" to be able to get the 3rd down. Would it be possible to just extend the mag box a little deeper and keep everything else (follower, spring, etc..) the same?

Definately need the new stock if you want to go deeper.

The only thing I can see working against this theory is the ruger front action screw is on an angle, making the stock deep enough to get the third round in will require longer screws and I recon it may not be right with the angle of the front screw

You will still require a new deeper custom follower box.

For the cost of the unique stock design and the new screws and modified follower box, you'd be better leaving the stock standard and tuning it into a single stack with a custom built magazine box.

Or as I first said a slightly deeper floor plate.

Either way there's NO free lunch here and only money and your imagination will be your barrier
