I respectfully have to disagree with your answer.
I Believe you ignored the "G" prefix. I don't know the answer, but "G" numbers are much later and found on Classics from the '90s forward.

I believe the G prefix was started in the 1968 series, denoting the addition of the guide on the bolt.

The listing I have in the Blue Book starts G series in 1969 with the number G941900 so for this to have a G prefix and a 6 digit number it must be from a different number series much later than 1981 when the high number was G1537134. My current online subscription shows the classic as starting in 1990 with serial number G15000 and the highest number is for 1992 with G26709. They have no years more recent. So it would seem if it's a 6 digit number it would be a really late manufacture.

You are correct, sir. I did totally ignore the "G" prefix.

And further research has proven to be frustrating. It seems the combination of the "G" prefix and a 6-digit serial number is an odd combination.

I hope a true Winchester collector will be able to put this to rest.

Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it. I just happened to be in the shop when the prior owner brought it in to sell, heard him say he only fired 7 rounds. And the next day it was mine.Other than one little pinprick hole in the right side of the stock, it is new. And I am new to big bores so this will be fun. Any advice would be helpful. Merry Christmas to all!

I copied another thread quite awhile back where someone seemed to know quite a bit about the later Winchester ser. numbers. From that post I think your rifle was made in 2002..approx.

As far as I know, late New Haven records either do not exist or have not been published. What info I have gained seems to favor the former option. Hard to believe, but this lack of factory serial numbers is very frustrating for many Winchester Mdl 70 owners and collectors.

If anyone claims to have an accurate serial number accounting from U.S. Repeating Arms, please post it or advise where it may be found.

Thanks

I bought one in 2000, PM me around Jan 4th as a reminder and I will check it out. For some reason the "G" seems familiar.
