The dates are in March, the gun range is trying to figure out what week. They have a cowboyshoot that a couple hundred people will be at, so even though it is huge, they are hesitant to book the range.
Butch Searcy is going to come, I have also invited the Krieghoff Dealer in LA. He is interested, but not sure if he can make it.
It had to be in March to not be conflicting with the hunting conventions.
Rules:
1. You must bring a boomer and ammo to attend. Send me a PM if you have a problem with this, it is based on previous problems at other big bore shoots in the region. I know this is not how it is done in Alaska, we aren't in Alaska.
2. Minimum caliber is .330
3. Everyone shoots everyones guns and ammo.
Within reason, not everyone will want to share more than they can afford or should they have to. 4. We will have the rifle range 50-300 yards to ourselves. The public (maybe 1 or 2 people) might be shooting pistols or at the 300-600 yard range. You are free to use those as well.
5. It is remote (20) miles from town. I am of the idea that we send a runner to Pizza Hut. The odds are the BLM will have fires shut off.
6. In the morning we'll have a show & tell and gun trying. In the afternoon we'll do a contest, unless we are over with the gun trying early.
7. Will start at 830 on a Saturday morning break for lunch about 1130 or 1200.
8. I am going to get some targets from Safari Press of buffalo and we'll have them at a couple ranges for the contest.
9. Afternoon contest will be a 50, 100, 200, 300 gong shoot. 50 off hand, 100, 200, 300 off tripods. SO YOU'LL NEED TO SAVE 10 ROUNDS FOR THIS, 2 SHOTS EACH DISTANCE.
10. Range wants $10 per head for the shoot for non-members. Payable at the door. Everyone signs a waiver. I'll have those. I'll ask about wives and kids.
11. I am thinking about doing shirts, let me know if there is an interest. If not maybe next time. I might design and buy 20 or so in L, XL and XXL. Price will be at cost probably $20-30. Long sleeve t-shirts like all of us desert rats wear.
12. Roads to Rigecrest on the 14, 395 and 178 are in good shape. About 3 hours from Vegas, 3 or 4 hours from most of LA, and 4 or 5 hours from San Diego. Hotels in town are fine, we live in suburbia and have a small house and a new baby or I'd host the lot at my place. Military lodging is available at NAS China Lake to those that qualify, we have most hotels here in town.
13. We'll do a dinner afterward if there is an interest, I'll need to know so I can make reservations once we firm up dates. WE HAVE CRAZY GOOD FRENCH, THAI AND TONS OF MEXICAN ONES.
