Greg, As soon as my stock comes in my .375 is gonna be given to Hill Country Rifles for a little work. I'm having them shorten it to 22". I've handled the same rifle in that barrel length and I really like it. I can't imagine losing much more than 50 fps by lopping 2" off. [ 03-06-2003, 18:36: Message edited by: TXPO ]

Greg, My .376 Steyr has a 20" barrel, and seems to produce "reasonable" velocity. I also know a hunter in Alaska who has a .375 H&H "scout rifle" with a short barrel -- but I don't know how far back he cut his. jim dodd

I cut my last 375 to 22" which, IMO, is perfect. BA

Sako used to offer the A3 action in a Mannlicher style stocked rifle with 18 1/2 inch barrel in .375H&H. I bought one in .30-06 and my hunting partner one in .375H&H. The short barrel is quite stiff, as there is little taper, and the rifle is quited heavy (about 9 lbs without scope). The .375 H&H rifle is very pleasant to shoot, but there is a significant muzzle blast. So, I would suggest that you may be capable of looking at a shorter barrel if length of the rifle is important. His 18 1/2 inch barreled rifle loses about 200 fps when compared to my 25 inch barreled Winchester Model 70. [ 03-08-2003, 23:14: Message edited by: targshooter ]
