Your thoughts on the Nightforce NXS Scope 2.5-10x24 .250 MOA MIL-DOT on a 375 H&H K98.

Then what would be the best quick release mounts for it ?

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

I have a nightforce 3.5X15 on my 30-06 and even though I'am a Swarofski fan, the night force optics are very sharp and as good as Swarofski.

I have the Swarofski 1.7X 10 with the 4AI reticle with Talley QR rings,on my 375 H&H built by American hunting rifles. Love that scope.

The nightforce scopes are heavy and tough, and I will be getting a few more for rifles that I need to scope.

Leaving for Namibia this evening for a Plains Game hunt for 14 days.

You might check with Butch Searcy, who built a bolt action 375 H&H for Johan Calitz. He put the nightforce 2.5X10 on it with red dot reticle, with Talley QR rings. Very nice set up. Both scopes are top quality, just a matter of personal preference.

I have looked at them and have been put off by their bulk, weight, price.
I think they would be perfect on a 50BMG (2 pounds plus for the higher power ones)
or smallbore tactical setup (one pound plus for the little ones, subject of this thread).

Better make sure the scope bases are integral to the action (CZ/AHR, Ruger, etc.),
or 8x40 and epoxy the bases to action if you must use a heavy scope on .375 and up calibers.

NXS does provide excellent Weaver-style bases with a built in recoil shoulders, in recognition of how heavy their scopes are.

My eyes are still good enough to make do with a lifetime-warranted Leupold 2.5-8x (about 11 ounces in weight).
Saeed has proven that scope on his .375/404, and he says it is fine with the standard Leupold duplex reticle.
That's my favorite too, for a .375, followed by the mildot, then Boone&Crockett reticles.

You can have mildot or whatever reticle with a 2.5-8x Leupold, and quarter MOA adjustments.
The rather short tube length may require special mounts for some magnum actions,
but where there is a will, there is a way,
sometimes available right off the shelf.

My 416 Rigby wears a 2.5-10x24 NXS w/ NP-1 illuminated reticle, weighs only 17 0z. And tracks very true. Steel Warne maxima's QD's have given no trouble shootin 400gn TSX's @ 2640 fps....Good Luck.

Why a mildot on a 375. too much going on inside the scope you dont need it, not my choice but if you shoot well with it stay with it.

The mounts: do claw mounts or eaw pivot mounts and have the bases screwed down with 8-40 in the front 6-48 in the back (thats how they come from EAW) then solder them on to the reciever and tighten the screws at the same time, its almost as strong as a double square bridge.

The mil-dot is etched into a lens just like cross hairs. Nothing likely to break.

I took a 10 x tasco super sniper on my 375.
sighted in at 200 the first mil dot down was almost dead on at 300. It worked real well ,even on running game

You might check on the March scopes. They have a 1X-10Xw/24 objective and a 2.5X-25Xx42 objective I believe and lighted reticals are available. They have ED glass. A little pricey, but who else has a ten times power increase?

JD, send it in to Ken Pratt @ nightforce for a NP-1 reticle, it is excellent for quick bracketing to fire on all game, and the adjustable illum. reticle lets you pick out game w/ a surgeons precision @ dusk and dawn....Good luck.

my comment has nothing to do with strenth, its just to many lines and circles going on in the scope it covers up the game. If you have a low power scope and huge dots it will cover the whole animal at 200 yds you will just be guessing if you are on the shoulder or his backbone.

If you have high power and big dots not so bad until you go long distance then the same thing the dots cover up the game.

GET THE NP-2DD i think this is the best reticle by NF for all game and power selections. If you go with NF check this one out
