buckstixI reluctantly sold my A-Square 577 T-REX - so I bought an AHR 600 OVERKILL
Hello all,
Last month I reluctantly sold my A-Square 577 T-REX - so ..... I bought an AHR 600 OVERKILL to take its place. This OVERKILL is a product of AHR (American Hunting Rifles) - custom built by Wayne Jacobson. The rifle is much better in person than the pictures shown below. Wayne is truly a Master Gun builder. Unfortunately, Wayne retired this year and there will be no more AHR Customs. A big loss to the custom gun world.
I loved my T-REX because it was famous for its field performance - launching a 750g projectile at 2460 fps = 10,075 ft/lbs muzzle energy - well, the OVERKILL launches a 900g projectile at 2450 fps = 11,980 ft/lbs muzzle energy. Unfortunately, with the added energy, comes added recoil. The 14-1/2 pound T-REX generates 170 ft/lbs of recoil, while the 11-3/4 pound OVERKILL generates 270 ft/lbs of recoil. The T-REX tames its recoil with 3 mercury recoil reducers - the OVERKILL tames its recoil with a massive muzzle brake. Having personal experience shooting both, I can confirm that the OVERKILL has much more felt recoil than the T-REX - but I love it.
A target shooting my "fun load" is shown below. Only 70 ft/lbs recoil.
Here is a video of a fellow (not me) shooting an AHR 600 OVERKILL.

That's doesn't look like fun.
In the first video it's amazing that the nearby cattle don't even flinch.

jeffeossoIf you didn't know, that cart was designed by AR's own RobGunBuilder - RBG
When it was i. The concept phase, I called it a 600 nitro with the flashed pulled up to a belt.
Rob, who had one of hyem bolt action 600 nitro at the time, explained that it's loosely based on the 600 nitro but the pressure would blow up a double rifle, and had to mechanically not fit
Oh, he also hated the hyem 600 ne bolt gun, due to torque when firing

jeffeossoDave started it all, for me, with the 470 mbogo.
Some Big bores that have come out of AR collaborations and friends
470 mbogo
458 rip
45/120 nitro
550 Gibbs
550 magnum
550 flanged
550 express
500 AccRel
490 AccRel
470 AccRel
470, 458, 416 AccRel
600 OK
12ga from hell
700 DA
577 BME
MM stuff was already done, but his penetration testing results are amazing
11 3/4 pounds and that huge muzzle brake, it couldn't be that bad. At least compared to my .585 HE 10 pounds 8.4 oz only and no brake. But I didn't fired full loads through it, just only starting loads such as 650 gr 2650 fps, 750 gr 2400 fps and 900 gr 2200 fps. I believe loads over 11 000 ft/lbs are possible, but recoil will be too much.
BTW It is very nice hunting rifle, except that muzzle brake.

The muzzle brake is removable and threads are covered with a matching cap. Then it looks nice.

Removable? So it is perfect catch!
