1st 375 H&H
I got a Sako AV 375 H&H carbine. Just shot it today with a M8 2.5x scope and 270 gr TSX shot a 1 " group at 100 yds. I sure wasn't expecting that as it was a used rifle. With the short barrel it makes a nice loud boom. Can't wait to take it hunting.

EnigmaCongratulations Ej on your new rifle. If you reload, I suggest using 73.0 to 74.0 gr of Reloder 15 with Winchester brass and Winchester LRM primers. That load should give you 2700 to 2730 fps with 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards.
Just my two cents
Ej, handloads with a 235gr bullet make the 375 useful for Whitetail hunting. Federal also makes a 250gr load with a velocity of 2,550 if I remember...kind of a factory reduced load. You can make the venerable 375 H&H quite versatile, and keep the recoil down in such a small rifle.

I really like that scope on a 375.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

jeffeossomediums tend to be prettty accurate.. wait till you try a scoped .475 or .510... big bores tend to be REALLY accurate, if the shooter doesn't flinch too much

prof242Congrats on your new rifle.

I still have my first .375H&H despite being a member of the .395 family.

For a great light game load, I use the Hornady 225gr SP pushed by H4895 to about 2700. Most accurate rifle load I use short of target rifles.
Like Jeff says above---big ones can really shoot accurate if you can take it. My 600 Overkill w/ 900 Woodleigh SP's pushed to 2100 with H4350 will shoot a ragged hole at 100 yards from a bench with a 2.5 scout scope if I just relax and sssqqqquuuueeeezze---& wait for the eruption up front
